Event Description

"Race for the Angels"

Along with the "Rally for our Children" on Sept. 25, this is DIPG Advocacy Group's kick-off and contribution to #CureFest2020!  It is also a way to support #Moonshot4Kids, the National DIPG Awareness Resolution in Congress, which asks that pediatric and high risk cancers be given greater priority for research support by our federal government.  The current medical research investment culture does not prioritize our children facing certain or probably death, so we are running/walking in honor of all of the angels who blessed this earth with their presence but who no longer live with us as children, and never had the chance to grow up.

All registered may do their challenge between sunrise on Sept. 25 and sunset on Sept. 27.  Pictures may be easily uploaded as well as your race results!  You are also encouraged to post pictures and #Moonshot4Kids, #ChildrensLivesMatter, #CureFest2020 hashtags with your pictures on Facebook, Twitter, and on the #Moonshot4Kids facebook page!

meaning/background:

#Moonshot4Kids refers to the National DIPG Awareness Resolution in US Congress, H. Res. 114, for which we are hoping for due process from House Leadership after 3 introductions and 5 years of continuing advocacy by the end of this session of Congress.   H. Res. 114 raises awareness to the urgent, unmet needs of children with brain cancer, the #1 disease-related cause of childhood mortality in the United States.  DIPG, the deadliest and one of the most common types of pediatric brain cancer, is a literal death-row for children with cancer from which only 1 in 100 diagnosed survives into adulthood.

The race is to honor the tens of thousands of children who have passed on from DIPG since Neil Armstrong's daughter Karen died of it in 1962, and a cry for our Resolution to pass the House of Representatives in their honor, and to support those currently fighting for their lives.

H. Res. 114 asks that childhood cancers and terminal cancers have greater consideration in the research grant process, and suggests increased federal funding for all childhood cancer research.  To support our public Letter to House Leadership, CLICK HERE.

Because for many of our group leaders, travel to Washington DC is restricted by 14-day quarantine, the live-streamed race will begin at sunset at Red Rock Canyon Park in Colorado, and the "Rally for our Children" will also originate in Colorado, as we will celebrate that state's extraordinary advocates and accomplishments for childhood cancer awareness.  All participants will be notified of streaming details by Sept. 18.
