September is Hunger Action Month. Before the COVID pandemic, in St. Lawrence County, 19.7% of the population lived at or below the poverty level; 13.6% were food insecure; 5,850 children lived in food insecure households. With increased unemployment and schools and summer programs closed, these numbers have undoubtedly grown. Yet farmers are still growing healthy, nutritious local food; we need to ensure that families who are struggling can access and afford that locally grown food.  The pandemic precludes us from holding our annual GardenShare Fight Hunger 5K, but we know that hunger action is still needed, now more than ever.  That's why...

We are asking you to sign up in support of GardenShare - to participate in an activity of your choosing - walk, run, bike, skate, swim, paddle, garden – or any other activity you choose.  Sign up and show your commitment to GardenShare's efforts that ensure a robust and equitable local food system and connect local farmers with low-income families.  Sign up and help to raise awareness of the increased pressures COVID has placed on our North Country neighbors.  Sign up and help raise money for GardenShare by becoming a fundraiser and asking your friends and family to join our cause.  Sign up to Fight Hunger YOUR Way.
