Event Description

Welcome to the first ever Back Mountain Kiwanis Virtual 5K Turkey Trot! This event allows you to simply run/walk/jog a 5K (3.1 miles) anytime and anywhere in November! Practice social distancing by choosing your location, whether on a treadmill or in your neighborhood and help out two amazing causes - The Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center and the Back Mountain Kiwanis Club Community Service Projects.

The Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, provides services to children who report sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect in Luzerne County. Each year, the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center provides free services to over 550 children and families who have experienced the trauma of abuse. Our services include medical examinations and evidence collection, forensic interviews, and victim and family advocacy services. All services are provided in a child-friendly environment in coordination with a Multidisciplinary Team. Never should a family have to worry when a child has had the courage to disclose abuse. Healing begins as soon as a child walks through our doors! They say it takes a community to raise a child...We say it takes a community to save a child!

The Back Mountain Kiwanis Club is part of a global volunteer organization dedicated to improving the world “one child and one community at a time”. We are making transformative changes in the Back Mountain community and are inspiring youth to follow in our footsteps. As such, our members dedicate their time to supporting children, families, and individuals in the communities of the Back Mountain, through hands-on service projects and fundraising efforts. We participate in service projects for Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge, Adopt-a-Highway, the CEO Food Bank, Trunk-or-Treat at the Luzerne Co. Fairgrounds, Lake Fest, just to name a few. Fundraisers have included Krispy Kreme sales, a Psychic Night event to benefit the Victims Resource Center, and a Trivia evening to benefit Toys for Tots. Finally, the Back Mountain Kiwanis Club proudly sponsors a Harvey's Lake t-ball team and participates in Kiwanis International’s Early Childhood Learning Initiative. Our club is limited only by our members’ imaginations!
