Event Description

Welcome to the “Hoo Doo You Run For? 5k/10k Walk or Run!!!  Join us as we celebrate, remember, and honor the lives lost to suicide.

COURSE INFO: The “Hoo Doo You Run For?” course is an all-terrain experience that will take you deep into the “hoo doos” of Goblin Valley State Park.  It is comprised of mostly dirt trails.  Although getting lost will be difficult, the course will be well marked with flagging and arrows along with organizer volunteers to guide your way.

ENTRY FEES: Early Registration 9/4-10/16 2020 $65.00/runner or walker. Late Registration 10/17-11/6 2020 $75.00/runner or walker. Children ages 10-17 are $20.00/runner or walker. Age 10 and under that do not want their time recorded are free. PLEASE NOTE: After early registration, t-shirt, finisher medal, and swag bag are not guaranteed.  Net proceeds will go to the HOPE Squad of Carbon, Emery, and Grand Counties.

PRE-RACE MEETING and PACKET PICK-UP: Due to the remoteness of the event and longer distances from major cities, packet pick up will begin at 6:00 AM and close at 7:30 AM the day of the event.  Your race bibs, wristbands, and swag bags will be given to you then.  That should give you time to stow them away before your race.  There is MANDATORY pre-race meeting at 7:45 AM at the pavilion.  The 10k participants will start at 8:00 AM and will be identified by their wristband color (we will have staggering start times depending on number of participants to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions.)  The 5k participants will begin as soon as all 10k participants have left the start line.  This will give participants three (3) hours to complete their respective course and return to the pavilion for the award ceremony.

AID STATIONS: We will have the Medical Reserve on standby at the pavilion along with Emery County Search and Rescue.  There will not be aid stations along the course, only volunteer event staff staggered throughout.  BE PREPARED and BRING YOUR OWN WATER.  There is no cell service at Goblin Valley State Park.  Our volunteer staff will have two-way radios to dispatch to the Medical Reserve in case of emergency.  We will have water filling stations at the pavilion for you to fill up your water container before and after the race.

WEATHER: Weather in early November can range from the low 30’s to high 60’s degrees Fahrenheit.  Abrupt changes can happen including strong winds, rain, hail, and even snow.  BE PREPARED.

ELEVATION: Goblin Valley State Park sits at 5,000 feet.  The course elevation ranges from approximately 4,600 – 5,100 feet.

AWARDS: Every early registration and most late registrations will receive a “Hoo Doo You Run For?” T-shirt, finisher’s medal, and swag bag.  We will meet under the pavilion at 11:00 AM to present the awards for the top three overall male, female, and child finishers.  We will then finish the day with our Keynote Speaker: Iraqi War Vet, YouTube sensation and Suicide Loss Survivor Ryan Stream.

GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION: Littering or being rude to race staff, BLM personnel, or park service workers, or tourists will result in immediate disqualification.  No pets or strollers on the course, please.  Keep your hands and feet to yourself.  No crew or assistance from cyclists allowed.

IF YOU DROP OUT: We will do everything we can to make this a fun, safe, and successful experience for you, but if for any reason you should drop out, it is REQUIRED to notify the race event staff as soon as possible.  Failure to do so may result in a search and rescue situation that will be billed to you. ($300/hour.)

POST RACE LUNCH: TBD
