Event Description
Living In Freedom Together (LIFT) is a survivor-led organization comprised of those who have overcome commercial sexual exploitation (CSE), and professionals sensitive to the needs of this vulnerable and marginalized population.
To raise awareness on the lived impacts of commercial sexual exploitation we will be hosting a virtual running series throughout the month of October. We will be running, walking, and biking a total of 12 miles to raise awareness to the average age individuals enter into commercial sex exploitation: 12 years old
Each Friday in October we encourage our participants to post their weekly 2 miles ran/walked/jogged with the caption #scarytruth
We will also be highlighting a weekly key component of the Equality Model, posting informational materials, and sharing survivors' insights:
We will be kicking off on October 2nd international day of non-violence, addressing the topics of entry ramps into CSE; such as poverty, child abuse, and the broken foster care system, highlighting how we can actively work to decreasing on-ramps to prostitution.
Day two, October 9th we will be addressing benefits of full decriminalization versus partial decriminalization of those who are prostituted
Day three, October 16th we will be discussing how people can support and strengthen anti-sex-trafficking legislation specifically in the Worcester community
Day four, October 23rd we will be emphasizing the importance of coordinating of a holistic approach, incorporating public information campaigns, education training, and coordination of laws, legislation, and services. We will be identifying what services Worcester currently offers and how to get more personally involved
Day five, October 30th we will be identifying the importance of exit ramps like crisis centers, clearing prostitution charges from records, education and job opportunities, and improved welfare systems; emphasizing the importance of high-quality services for those in prostitution
Day six, our final day falls on Halloween, October 31st. We will be addressing how there needs to be more accountability in criminalizing the act of buying sex, the real scary truth being that real predators exist not only on our streets, but in our own house-holds as well.
