Event Description
Upshur County Trails is a volunteer group dedicated to improving trail conditions and creating new trails in the Upshur County area. Our vision is to unite the trail users of Upshur County and surrounding counties to improve the trail usage in Upshur County for recreational uses like mountain biking, trail running and hiking. Our main focus has been on the old cross country trails that are located behind the Buckhannon-Upshur High School in the Upshur County Recreation Park. Our group of volunteers have dedicated not only their time, but also their money in order to maintain and build new trails. Now, an impressive and well used 6+ mile loop is available for enjoyment. However, there’s still work to be done and we need your help. Recently, additional acreage has been leased in order to be developed into more trails. To help fund this work, we’ve partnered with the Upshur County Recreation & Parks Board to establish a fundraiser, UCT Raizin' Trails Virtual Run, Walk, Bike or Hike, to raise awareness and funds for us to continue building and maintaining these beloved trails.
Event Info: This virtual event will be held from October 17, 2020 - November 8, 2020. Last day to register will be October 26, 2020.
During this time, and after paying the registration fee, we encourage you to go out and explore the Upshur County Trails - run, hike, bike, walk or skip. Not only will you receive a super cool t-shirt and/or hat for signing up, but you will also be entered into a drawing to win a prize package featuring local goodies from our sponsors. Cost: $35 - Entry into the drawing plus an event t-shirt and sticker OR $50 - Entry into the drawing plus an event t-shirt, hat and sticker
Location: The Upshur County Trails are located behind the Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Drive to 270 BU Drive, Buckhannon, WV, 26201 – once you enter the parking lot stay to the left to drive past the football field. You will see a pavilion and parking lot. There are several places to enter the trails – just below the football field beside the basketball court, beside the volleyball court & when you enter the high school drive way beside the State Police barracks. Live out of sate or just can’t make it to the trails, but still want to participate? No problem! We would love to have you support our efforts. Simply sign up and head out to your local park or trails and enjoy some fresh air. There are no mileage requirements, so get out there and just do what you can. We will mail you your swag at the conclusion of the event. Participant shirts, stickers and hats will be available for pick-up at Stonetower Brews in Buckhannon on a designated date that will be emailed to participants at the conclusion of the event. They will also be available at upcoming trail work dates, which will be announced on the Upshur County Trails Facebook page. If a participant cannot pick up their swag, it will be mailed to them.
