Event Description

What is SISU? Sisu is a Finnish cultural concept encompassing strength and determination in the face of adversity. It involves combination of stamina, perseverance, courage, and determination held in reserve for hard times. We honor our local Finnish heritage by borrowing this term as the name of our event, and demonstrate our sisu by training for and participating in the challenging events despite cold temperatures, snow conditions, hilly courses and competitive pressure.

The SISU Ski Fest (SSF) was chartered in 2010 as a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting silent sports with emphasis on cross-country ski racing and generating economic activity in the Ironwood area. The SISU Ski Fest manifests these goals.

Our Mission: To promote the sport of cross country skiing, encourage safe local tourism, and advance local pride through a premier cross country ski event.

Our Hope: That our 2021 Virtual SISU Ski Fest brings some levity, relief, and focus to you in these hard times. Let's work together for a fun ski season!
