Event Description
This is a virtual running event for the Mattaw Children in Kitale, Kenya, Africa. A virtual run simply means we are not meeting at a designated place for this event but it is for you to walk, run or jog wherever you are. We hope you will gather friends and family in your area and meet up to do this together! This is an event to gather virtually around the world in order to raise funds for the Mattaw Children. Whatever your level or speed of exercising is, this is an event for all ages and all levels!
1K Graze like and Elephant, 5K Jog like a Warthog, or 10K Run like a Cheetah!
At the Mattaw Children's Village, all of our children will be participating and you'll have an opportunity to participate with us at the same time and date, no matter what country or time zone you are in. We plan to share the race live through social media platforms as well as the app on this site, so be sure to find us at MattawChildren on Instagram and Facebook!
If you're new to hearing about us, here's a quick summary of why we exist:
The Mattaw Children's Village is located in Kitale, Kenya, Africa. At Mattaw Children's Village, we are focused on empowering vulnerable children through education and giving them a family to belong to. Our model at mattaw is not a traditional orphanage. The children in our care are committed to us through the government children's court due to various reason which cause them to not be able to safely live with biological family. Our vision is to receive children and place them in a new family at Mattaw. All of our staff are Kenyans hired from the local area where we are located. Our model consists of small family units. Each family has their own house with a father, mother, and 8-12 children. We currently have 7 family homes with over 100 children. And we invite you to join in to help us care for our children. All funds from this event will go directly to the Mattaw Children. We are a registered non-profit in the state of Texas and any additional donations apart from the race registration will be tax-deductive. Please donate by going to our website: www.mattawchildren.com
