Event Description

We are excited to invite you and your loved ones to participate in the Mid-Atlantic's Inaugural "Catch Me If You Can" Virtual 5K to benefit Children's Cancer Association (CCA). Run, walk, or skip the 3.1 miles. It doesn't matter. We want you to get out, have fun, get moving and enjoy the amazing fall weather and most importantly, share your experiences with us and your family. You can take on the challenge in your neighborhood, the local trails or even the school track. That is up to you!

We kindly ask that each family make an effort to raise $100 to support CCA, providing Joy-centric programs that create immediate and measurable improvement to the mental and emotional wellness of young patients. Donating is not required to participate, only highly encouraged. All participants will receive a race bib to proudly wear during your effort and also a themed drinking glass.

You have the option to complete the event anytime from Friday 12/25 through Sunday 12/27. Your effort must be posted to RunSignUp no later than 11:59PM on Sunday 12/27.

Never walked or ran a 5K before? No worries! Your resident experts, Brian Dwyer and Tanner Herpst, are here to help. Over the next month, Brian and Tanner will be hosting webinars, providing tips via Workplace and available for one-on-one support if needed.

Brian picked up running in college as a way to stay in shape for Ultimate Frisbee. He has participated in races with lengths spanning 5Ks to Half Marathons, but has yet to brave anything lengthier. His favorite seasonal race to run is the Cherry Blossom 10 miler held in DC each year during peak bloom. Mostly, he just runs for fun and can be found running the Mt. Vernon trail, around Arlington, and occasionally on the National Mall.

Tanner started running relatively recently, beginning just doing a lap around his block and a 5K shortly thereafter. And since then, he has run all distances, including a 50 mile race last year. He prefers running in the cooler fall months but hates how early the sun sets. During the week, you'll find him running loops in his neighborhood or around Columbia. And on weekends, he generally finds the time to hit the trails in Patapsco Valley State Park.

We also want to encourage you to download the Strava app to your smart phone. This app will allow you to not only track your effort on the day of but also to track your progress leading up to the event. You do not have to download and/or use Strava but it is a great tool that allows you to track distances, times, etc. and share with your others friends on Strava. There are a TON of other great apps, but we will be trying to setup a Strava club, if enough people sign up.
