Event Description

Challenge your chums and run like a salmon! It's virtual. And anywhere.

Vashon Park District's 2021 Chum Run is a virtual run (or swim or walk or bike) to fundraise for our youth scholarship fund and to give you a chance to keep fit. The scholarship fund helps our Island youth in need of financial assistance attend camps and programs that might otherwise be out of reach.

It's your choice to run a virtual 5K / 10K / Half Marathon or Marathon on any date in December. You can run these virtual races on your own time, on your own course, and on your own date. You can run them from anywhere in the whole wide world, even on a treadmill in your basement. By registering for the Chum Run, you'll receive a race bib, shirt, and our nonedible salmon medal.

Like we said - you can also walk or swim or bike - it's really up to you! Whatever you decide, we know you're faster than your chum in Loveland or your cousin in Des Moines So challenge them to join you and help send a kid to swim lessons!.

Swag will be mailed out in early January. Bibs may be available for pick-up prior to the race. Give us a call Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM  at (206) 463-9602 to arrange to pick up.

Why should I participate?

  • This event helps raise funds for our island youth needing scholarship assistance to attend VPD camps and programs.
  • Because you need the exercise.  Vashon Park District thinks it's important to encourage a healthy lifestyle and we want you to … move.
  • Bonus...many students are looking for ways to count activities for PE...this might count!

Would you like to receive a digital Finishers Certificate?

Once you have completed your event, go back to our race event site, find the "Results" button and add your individual times.  A digital certificate will be emailed to you. Remember, since you run your own course, you set where the finish line is located.  Many people use smartphones, watches with GPS to tell them how far they have gone. You can also Google your course online and figure out your distance before you go...just make sure to time yourself!
