Event Description

For years my family and I have discussed organizing a 5k. If you're new around here, us Shimanskys love to raise money for a good cause, and in the last 8 years, attending races, either as a participant or spectator, has become a huge part of our lives.

On January 17th, I'll be turning 31, and it's become a tradition for me to run a distance that correlates with my age. So what better time to start a 5k (AKA 3.1 miles) than on my 3.1st birthday! ;)

As many of you know, for the past 11 years, my sister, Casie, the captain of Team Live Out Loud, has raised money for the St. Baldrick's foundation. Similar to running, this event and organization have become an intregal part of my family's life. So, let's combine the two.

On January 17th, 2021, we will be holding the First Annual Live Out Loud 5k. Proceeds will be donated to the St. Baldrick's Foundation benefitting children's cancer research. 

2020 has been an insane year, so we're going to kick off 2021 with hope, positivity, community, and love. We're going to run (or walk, bike, rollerblade, crawl... whatever you want!).  We're going to show the world what it's like to truly Live Out Loud in remembrance of those we have lost, in honor of those on the front line who have been so brave, and in solitary... VIRTUALLY, but still together as one.
