Would like to present the second leg in our Triple Challenge For Recovery!

2020 was a crazy ride for us all, and I think we're all excited to welcome 2021 and the positive changes it can bring!  We, like many other non-profits around the nation, had to change our fundraising paradigm to match the Covid environment we all find ourselves in.  This means a big push towards virtual fundraising options.  We had our first ever virtual Miles for Recovery event in September 2020 and it was a great way to get our community involved and active in spite of all the odds being stacked against us.  We got up, got outside (or inside!) and racked up miles in all sorts of fun ways! We walked, biked, hiked, jogged, ran, rowed, and rode our way through September, cheering each other on in our own virtual community.  Now, we'd like to introduce our second virtual event in what will be a trifecta ending with a HOPEFULLY IN PERSON 5K in June!

After so many months of quarantines, full and partial lockdowns, and not being able to see our friends and family, we thought a virtual challenge event is just what we need to get our spirits up!  In this event we're racking up minutes of activity, so whether you're cycling, hiking, running, or rowing, OR doing a Pilates, yoga, boxing, barre, HIIT, or whatever other workout you enjoy, add up all those minutes and challenge all of your friends to join you in being active!  While individual participation is always available, we'd like to highly encourage people to invite a team of friends, co-workers, family members or even perfect strangers to join them on a team and challenge other groups of friends!  We've been isolated for so long, let’s all enjoy this challenge with our friends (in a safe, smart way of course!). There’s a lot of details and a few different team types so read on for all the information you could ever need!
  • Individuals –
    • Covid has made us all hide out in our homes for so long, we really want this to be more of a group effort than an individual one, but we are still offering the opportunity to compete as an individual.  If you’re one the few who’s loving lockdown life, we still want to cheer you on and encourage you to get active!
The individual prize is a $100 Amazon Gift Card!  ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS GIFT CARD, even those who sign up for the team challenges!
    • The gift card goes to whoever has the most minutes of activity in the month of March!  Please remember this is a virtual event, there will be no policing of activities and we expect participants to be honest about their levels of participation. If odd, overzealous, or potentially erroneous results do get posted, we will be reaching out for some clarification and verification.
  • Social Teams -
    • 2-5 Participants
    • There is a discount involved for getting the full 5 people signed up, once your fifth team member joins you will all get a $5 refund! So, call your friends and start up a team!
    • Social teams will be competing against other social teams for a chance to win lunch on us, so while a team of 3 or 4 is certainly acceptable, it may not be as competitive against those groups with the full 5 members.  Keep this in mind as you’re setting up your team!
    • The prize for the social team challenge is sub sandwiches on us, so get out there and get those minutes adding up!
  • Occupational Groups -
    • 1+ Participants, no size limit
    • This is a friendly challenge to show everyone which occupation has the most active minutes, and the prize here is pride.  Healthcare workers, small business owners, warehouse workers, casino workers, insurance agents, lawyers, police, fire, EMS, whatever industry you work in can have a team! Team members can be local or from all over the country or world, so go ahead and encourage everyone you work with, near and far, to sign up and show everyone which occupation is the most active!
    • Since there is no size limit and the prize is pride, we want to really encourage people to make this a friendly competition between occupations.  Mechanics think you’re more active than Human Resources? Show them!  Warehouse workers think you’re more active than nurses?  SHOW THEM!  Whoever you are and wherever you work, here’s your chance to show everyone how active you really are!
    • All participants in the team challenges will also be included in the individual prize challenge, so no need to worry about missing out on that Amazon gift card by showing your work-place pride!
  • Non-Profit Teams -
    • Up to 5 participants, can be staff, board members, or volunteers
    • As a non-profit ourselves, we know how hard this Covid world we live in has been on our local and national non-profits.  Fundraising has changed, how we interact with our communities has changed, and even the funds available to us have changed.  We’d like to offer this challenge as an opportunity for our non-profit friends to get a team of staff and/or volunteers together and get out there and get active!
    • There’s a wide range of non-profits out there and for this particular event we’d like to focus on the little guys, so we’re limiting the size of the non-profit to 50 staff members or fewer.
    • We’re still working on an awesome prize for our non-profit team, but it will be along the lines of an organizational boost for your non-profit and we’ll be announcing it by February 1.
    • All non-profit teams will also get a shout out and an introduction on our website and facebook group page, so even if you don’t win you still have the opportunity to get your name out there and get people knowledgeable about who you are and what you do!
  • Important Dates –
    • Entries will open for this Challenge January 29, 2021 and will remain open until March 31.
    • The challenge itself begins March 1 and ends March 31, 2021.
    • Active minutes will only count if they were accrued in March.  For example, if I sign up in February, I can’t add any February minutes, I have to wait until March.  If I sign up March 15, I can retro-actively add in all minutes I’ve done in March, no penalty for showing up late to the party!
    • This is a real challenge, with a prize going to whoever has the most minutes of activity, and the cutoff date for submitting those activity minutes will be April 6.  It still only applies to March minutes, but this gives you a few extra days just in case those last days in March get hectic.
    • The winners of the team and individual challenges will be announced on April 9, 2021
  • Discount Opportunities –
    • Once you sign up, you’ll be given a link through the race website to share to whatever social media outlet you prefer.
      • Refer 5 friends, get $5 off your entry!
      • Refer 10 friends, get $10 off your entry!
      • It doesn’t matter what team they sign up for or even if they sign up as an individual, they just have to sign up by clicking on your link!
  • Pre-purchase Opportunities –
    • When you join a team, regardless of what type it is, you will have the opportunity to pre-purchase entries for other participants at a discounted price.
      • Buy 2 entries for $50 (save $5 off each entry!)
      • Buy 3 entries for $60 (save $10 off each entry!)
      • Buy 4 entries for $80 (save $10 off each entry!)
      • Buy 5 entries for $100 (save $10 off each entry!)
    • This is an excellent opportunity for employers to pre-purchase entries for their employees, friends to purchase entries for the rest of their social team of friends, non-profits to pre-purchase for their team of staff and volunteers, or for anyone who feels like paying it forward and pre-paying someone’s entry!
  • How to log your minutes –
    • Once March arrives, you have the option to input minutes as you accrue them, or to input them all as a lump sum at the end, or any combination thereof.  However, this is a true challenge with the winner getting a nice prize, so it is recommended that you input once a week at a minimum so we can cheer each other on and know how much more active we need to be to make it a fun competition!
    • Once you sign up, detailed instructions on how to log minutes will be sent to you via email, so make sure to put in a valid email address and check it every now and then for important messages from us.  Detailed instructions and screen shots will also be available on our website, www.100milesforrecovery.com.

Recovery

While Recovery Month was technically back in September, we want to keep that theme rolling because lets be honest, we're all still recovering from 2020!  Recovery month is all about the promotion of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrating people in recovery, and promoting the message that recovery in all of its forms is possible.  For more information on Recovery Month, please click here to visit their website.
