Event Description

Plogging is a combination of running or walking and picking up trash you see on your route. It is an up and coming fitness trend that brings variety to your workouts while helping to keep the environment clean and healthy. Plogging for Mental Health is a fitness initiative that seeks to bring mental health awareness and support to Pitt's campus, through club meetings, plogging, and an annual 5k race. Anyone can register for this race, no matter your ability, and plogging materials will be provided for Pitt students.

This race will be virtual and done in shifts, in order to remain safe during the ongoing pandemic. Choose the day/time over the race weekend where you will do the plogging walk or run and register for that event. Pitt students may register for one of the available dates and times, while non-Pitt students and those who are not in Pittsburgh may register for the event titled "Non-Pitt Students." A new group will start every 20 minutes, but you may take as much time as you need to complete the plog. If you want to plog with members of your pod, be sure to register for the same event.

Each participant who is plogging on the Pitt campus will begin at the same starting line, with a group of up to 15, and their group will be assigned one of three routes. Remember to go at your own pace, and pick up as much trash as you can! Details of these routes will be posted on our Instagram, so be sure to follow @pitt_plogging for important race day information.

Mask wearing and social distancing will be enforced.

Happy Plogging!!
