Event Description

Join us for the Ninth annual Running Wild 7K Trail Run on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Maplewood State Park! Proceeds benefit Health Resources Center of Fergus Falls.

The Running Wild 7K course navigates through the beautiful, but challenging terrain of northwest Minnesota. The 7K terrain includes some uneven ground, lots of mini-hills, a gravel road, moderately challenging hills and the rigorous Ironwood Trail Hill.

Running Wild Trail Run is held at Maplewood State Park located seven miles east of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, on State Highway 108 in Otter Tail County.

Maplewood State Park offers more than 9,000 acres of tree-covered hills, including clear lakes nestled in deep valleys, hardwood forests, wild flowers, a variety of wild life and 25 miles of hiking trails.

Event details and schedule

The health and safety of our participants, volunteers, sponsors, spectators, staff, and community remains our top priority.  A number of new safety measures are outlined below. In order to host this event, we will abide by all state and government guidelines.

Safety Measures

If you are sick or experience any COVID-related symptoms in the 7 days prior to race day (fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, and others as per CDC guidelines), you MUST NOT participate.  Please contact the race directors at runningwildtrailrun@gmail.com and do not attend the event.

 

Safe Distancing

Maintain at least six feet between you and other runners or volunteers at all times.  Abide by posted signage.  During the race, maintain a wide berth when passing another runner.

 

Masks

The governor has lifted the mask mandate, so masks are no longer required!

 

Hand and Other Hygiene

Keep hands clean and avoid touching your face.  Hand sanitizer will be available.  Avoid spitting or blowing your nose unless into a kerchief or properly disposed tissue.  All volunteers handling beverages or food are required to wear gloves.

 

PACKET PICK-UP:

Pre-Race: Friday, June 11, 4:00 – 6:00pm at Health Resources Center, 126 E Lincoln Ave, Fergus Falls, MN 218.736.6050 (participants are encouraged to pick up their packet on Friday to help with congestion on Saturday morning).

 

Race Day: Saturday, June 12, 7:00 – 9:00am at the Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter at Maplewood State Park (participants will line-up outside, near Josh Hanson Picnic Shelter, to receive a bib and their race shirt. Social distancing will be encouraged with traffic cones designating suggested distancing).

 

REGISTRATION: Running Wild 2021 is LIMITED TO 250 PARTICIPANTS

Pre-Race: Entry forms must be submitted on-line at active.com by June 10 at 11:59pm. Pending availability, participants can still register at Packet Pick-up on Friday, June 11, 4:00 – 6:00pm at Health Resources Center, 126 E Lincoln Ave, Fergus Falls, MN 218.736.6050

Race Day: Saturday, June 12, 7:00 – 9:00am at the Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter at Maplewood State Park (pending availability).

 

STARTING TIME:

9:00am        7K Trail Run

 

AWARDS:

All 7K finishers will receive a unique finisher medal. Due to the unique nature of this year’s event, there will be no age group awards or award ceremony following the race.

 

RESULTS:

Results will not be posted at Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter. Results will be online: HERE

 

COURSE MARKINGS:  - all in RED (flags & ribbons) White 12”X18” Signs for Mile Markers.

Please use CAUTION: many rocks, tree roots, loose gravel.  The finish can be especially problematic as you go from trail to pavement so please use extreme caution. The 7K is a challenging course – pace yourself!


WATER STOPS: There will be ONE WATER STATION on the 7K course (roughly mile 3.75).

To minimize touch points and contact between runners and volunteers, cups WILL NOT be handed out. Small water bottles will be on the aid station table. You are responsible for your own hydration; you are welcome to carry a water bottle or hydration pack.  

 

FIRST AID:  There will be a First Aid table at the finish line and at Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter.  Also, an on-site EMT and an AED will be available.

 

PARKING:

All Running Wild Participants receive a day park pass as part of your registration fee.

There will be parking attendants to help you park in the most efficient way.  Please arrive at Maplewood State Park in plenty of time to park and pick up your packets.

 

ON THE COURSE:

Headphones are allowed.  Strollers & pets are not allowed during the time of the race for the safety of all participants.

 

RESTROOMS/Changing Rooms:

Portable Toilets – by finish/start line

Restrooms – in building just below the Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter

 

Spectators:

Due to changes made by the State of MN, spectators are now welcome!

 

Post-Race Food:

To minimize contact points and crowding, we will be providing bananas, granola bars, and bottles of water out on tables next to the finish line. Please do not return to Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter.

Running Wild is a fundraiser for the non-profit, Health Resources Center (HRC) in Fergus Falls, MN. HRC provides parenting, pregnancy, and healthy relationship resources.     www.hrcff.org
