A little about myself:

My name is Taylor, and I’m 25 years young. I was born and raised in Peru, IL. I graduated from Northern Illinois University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing.

My Before
In high school, I was actively involved in sports, but when I graduated high school and moved to college, I wasn’t playing sports or working out. That’s when the “Freshman 15” hit me, which was more like the “Freshman 30 and up.” I would eat horrible food, drink every Thursday through Saturday with friends, and eat late at night after drinking. I was a completely different person from when I was in high school.



Why I got involved in Tone It Up
I found Tone It Up in 2012. I was browsing on Pinterest trying to procrastinate on homework, and I came across these two gorgeous girls. I loved everything about them. Their hair, makeup, clothes, bodies, smiles, and confidence. I had to learn more. Before I knew it, I was on ToneItUp.com, and I found out these girls were Karena and Katrina, the founders of Tone It Up. I spent a little time researching, and I ended up purchasing the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan. It took me over a year before I started using the nutrition plan, but I started working out to their YouTube videos during my senior year of college.


The Tone It Up process and community
The Tone It Up Nutrition Plan is a little scary at first glance. I think that’s why it took me so long to dive into it. Plus, change is scary. I was afraid that I wouldn’t succeed. The plan is actually super easy to learn and apply to your life. I found that what works for me is picking a few recipes each week and quadrupling the recipes so I can eat the same meals throughout the week. For example, Tone It Up recommends 5 meals a day, so a typical day for me could be:
M1: protein shake
M2: rice cake
M3: brussels, sweet potatoes, ground turkey
M4: trail mix
M5: chicken and broccoli

What I love about the TIU Nutrition Plan is that it has a ton of recipes to pick and choose from. It also allows you to create your own recipes based on the plan and what you have in your kitchen. You learn to indulge but not over indulge.

The TIU workouts are fun, quick, and effective. They have so much free content on their website and YouTube channel. You also have the option to buy additional workouts like their Beach Babe DVDs and exclusive workouts.

The Tone It Up Community is another aspect of TIU. There are TIU girls all over the world. Each city or town has meet ups, and the girls in your town or around the world become your friends. They support and motivate you through social media, text groups, or in person.

Tone It Up really sets you up for success by giving you all of the tools you need to get started.


My After
Tone It Up helped me lose 50 pounds, but I’ve gained so much more. I lost the weight, but I also literally toned it up by gaining muscle. I’m happier, healthier, more confident, etc. I’m not afraid to jump in and try new things anymore because I know I’d have more regret if I didn’t try in the first place. I can’t even imagine where I would be right now if I was the same person I was when I graduated college. I think I would be in a completely different place in every area of my life. I’m glad I don’t have to find out what would’ve happened if I never found Tone It Up. Thanks to TIU and the community, I was able to find myself again.

How this helped my running
The first race I ever ran was in 2011. I still remember that there were bibs designated for runners and walkers. I had a running bib, but not even half a mile into the run, I felt tired, weak, and short of breath, so I started walking. I was still walking at mile 2 when a little girl and her mom passed me. I heard the little girl say, “Mom, why are our bibs different colors?” Her mom responded with, “She’s a runner.”I felt so embarrassed that they were running while wearing walking bibs, and I was walking with a running bib. They motivated me to run again, but I had to walk again towards the end of the finish line. I stopped doing races for a while after that. When I found Tone It Up, I decided to sign up for my first half marathon. I figured that this would be the way I would stick to a training schedule. I started at 10-11 minute miles, and by the time my first half marathon came around, I ran at an 8:30 pace. I learned to fall in love with running. I’ve done so many more 5Ks, 10Ks, 15Ks, Half Marathons, Tough Mudders, Triathlons, and I even have my first Marathon later this year!

Where im at today:
I not only became healthier and happier, I found a passion for health and wellness, which led me to a job as an Event Coordinator with Sour Fish Events. Now, I plan 5Ks like The Hard Cider Run, The Great Pumpkin Run, and The Cheddar Challenge!

My Message
“Strive for progress, not perfection.” I’m a quoteaholic, and this is one of my favorite quotes. Change is hard, but there’s no such thing as perfection. If you’re unhappy with something, you have the ability to change it. It just takes a little handwork and dedication. Make yourself proud by getting out there and trying new things. “A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.”
