Event Description

On January 24, 2008, Tom was diagnosed with cancerous lesions in his liver. After further tests, the final diagnosis was Stage 4 metastatic Colon Cancer. Tom was determined from the day of diagnosis that he would fight until the end, and that he did.
Tom endured many rounds of chemotherapy treatments, removal of part of his liver, and the many side-effects that accompany cancer treatments. His treatments continued almost non-stop for nearly two years, but there was never a day that Tom complained.
Tom endured any and all side-effects with dignity, with the hope for a cure, and with the hope for another day with his family and friends. Tom worked full-time at the Staunton Police Department, missing work only for treatments or doctor’s appointments.
Tom was a wonderful husband, father, and friend, and maintained a very close and involved relationship with his family and friends. Tom kept his smile and his good nature about him until the end. Tom was and will always be an inspiration and hero to those who knew him and to those lives he touched with his inspirational and courageous journey.

Both race routes start and end in front of 1 Mill Street in Downtown Staunton. They share the same route until they split at N Augusta Street and Edgewood Drive. The 5k course will turn right onto Edgewood Drive while the 10k course runs through Baldwin Estates. Both routes join again at N Coalter Street and Statler Blvd. The complete routes are posted on Facebook, MapMyRun.com, and at the race check in.

Participants will receive a finisher's medal, a race t-shirt (while supply's last), and automatic entry for prizes to be drawn on race day.
