Event Description
The Run for Jess - Virtual 5k Run/1 Mile Walk has been created to help show support for Jessica Pinkos and to raise money to help her family with any expenses.
Over the past several years, Jessica Pinkos has battled and continues to battle osteosarcoma, thyroid cancer, anxiety, depression. She has had over 20 surgeries, countless hospital stays, doctor visits, and has had to relearn how to walk. And through it all she continues to remain such a positive person and a symbol of strength for so many. She has built relationships with people from all walks of life. This event is one small way to remind her that she's not alone in any of this. Jess has been a part of many "running families" from Sandburg High School, to Moraine Valley Community College, to Aurora University, so putting together a running related event seemed fitting.
Since this is a Virtual Event, there is no actual race. You can run/walk your 5k or 1 mile at any date, time, and location that you want.
There is an option on this website to submit photos. Feel free to send a picture with your race t-shirt or with words of encouragement/support for Jess.
There will not be any awards but if you would like to submit your 5k time to be posted in the Results then please submit it between Monday, July 5th and Sunday, July 18th.
Meanings Behind the Shirt Design:
Yellow and sunflowers for sarcoma.
Pink, purple, teal, and butterflies for thyroid cancer.
Green for mental health awareness.
T-Shirt Pickup
A Drive-Thru Pickup will be held at Moraine Valley Community College on Saturday, June 26th from 10:00am to 1:00pm. More details will be available as the date nears.
In order to guarantee your t-shirt is available on June 26th you must have registered for the event by Monday, June 14th. If you register after June 14th then your t-shirt will be available on a later date (details to follow).
If you live out of the area or cannot make it to the Drive-Thru Pickup on June 26th please email Dimitri Dimizas at dimizas.dimitri@gmail.com to work out a solution. You will get your shirt no matter where in the world you live.
Donations
All proceeds from the registration fees will go to Jessica Pinkos and her family. If you would also like to make a donation please click on the "Donation" button at the top of the website and follow those instructions.
