Event Description
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11 when 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers and 9 EMS workers lost their lives, North Topsail Fire and Rescue Department invites ALL Firefighters, Rescue, EMS, Police and civilians of all ages and abilities to participate in their 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
This event will be held at the beautiful Saint Regis Resort located on the ocean in North Topsail Beach. This 20th Anniversary Memorial Stair Climb is to honor their brothers that made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11/2001.
Proceeds from the event will go to Tunnel2Towers Foundation and NTB Fire and Rescue.
Tunnel2Towers foundation honors Stephen Stiller a firefighter who died on 9/11 sacrificing his life while trying to save others. They also honor ALL military and first responders who continue make the supreme sacrifice. The foundation aims to pay off mortgages of fallen law enforcement and firefighters killed in the line of duty, builds "smart" homes for mobility impaired veterans and first responders as well as other initiatives.
The NTBFD responds to all emergency calls for service on the island to include all medical, fire and water rescue. They also provide mutual aid to other agencies outside of our district. The NTB Volunteer Rescue provides water rescues on all waterways that surround the island as well as responding to motor vehicle accidents, vehicle extrications and other lifesaving efforts
The NTB Fireman’s Association will be using their portion of money raised to help any of their firemen that require help with medical expenses or with any hardship they face. Money will also be used to purchase necessary equipment and supplies for the department that the town may not be able to supply.
Participants will be challenged to climb flights of stairs at St Regis Resort in North Topsail Beach, NC.
The NTB Fire and Rescue is planning on duplicating last year’s event by climbing 110 stories, flights of stairs,duplicating the Twin Towers. Ascending to the top and descending is considered one completed flight.
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is not a timed event but a way for firefighters and the community to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. There is no monetary prize or placement awards, this is an opportunity to achieve personal goals and self-achievement.
All participants will receive a short sleeve special logo t-shirt.
