Event Description
Come join this youth event of triathlon hosted by the Gulf Park Pool for kids ages 2-14! Register for a choice of 3 races:
Dolphin Race - A non-sanctioned race for kids that cannot swim longer distances or without a swim aid (water wings, kickboard, parent), the bike is a short loop (bikes may have training wheels) and a half mile run to the finish line.
Big Blue Shark - Sanctioned with USA Triathlon, 50-yard swim, 1.3-mile bike, .5 mile run to finish line
Great White Shark - Sanctioned with USA Triathlon, 100-yard swim, 2.8-mile bike, 1 mile run to finish line.
Ages 2 to 14, can do any race based on distance and start time. For the dolphin's sprint, the kids can watch the first race to get an example of how it's done. They are allowed to make use of water wings or a floatation device to help them "get their feet wet" in the sport of triathlon. The smaller kids may also use training wheels in the shorter distance.
Packet Pickup begins at 7 am at Gulf Park Pool in Knoxville, TN. and will go till 9 am cutting off 5 minutes for each race before they begin.
Parking will be on Cedar Bluff in the gravel lot outside the Gulf Park pool. Once you park, you can come inside the pool area for packet pickup.
Once you have picked up your child's packet, you will walk down to transition in the back parking lot. Once you get to transition, the parents are not permitted inside the transition area for the Big Blue Sharks and Great White Sharks. Dolphin parents will be permitted to enter the designated transition area. Don't worry, we will have plenty of volunteers to help out the kiddos.
There will be finishers medals for each finisher.
Awards will be given for the Shark categories. The dolphins will be given an award as well!
Top 3 boys and girls overall in each division plus top three male and female age groups.
Shark age groups:
5 and under; 6-7; 8-10; 11-12; 13 and up
The shark races are USA Triathlon Sanctioned, so the rules will be based on them. You can find out more by visiting www.usatriathlon.org. I will also send out an email concerning USA Triathlon rules the week before.

8am Great White Shark race begins with time trial start to pool.
8:30 Big Blue Shark race begins after brief pre race meeting at pool
9:15am Dolphins race begins
