*Everyone is welcome to come camp with your burro Friday 24th to Sunday 26th. We have a huge open field to set camps up in. Follow signs and flags to camp area. We have a few pens but you should make arrangements to contain your own burro in camp. There are trees to highline to but please don’t tie burros to trees. The start/finish will be thru the middle of camp. Unless local restrictions forbid it I am planning on having a BBQ fire on Friday and Saturday evening.
*Camping is included in entry fee. $10 per night for pens. Bring a little more cash if you want to participate in the Mad Ass Dash $10/ entry(Friday evening), Superheroes and Villains Costume Contest$20/entry(Saturday afternoon) Entry fees split 60/40 if more than 8 entries and the Obstacle Challenge$20/entry Sunday morning, winner takes all.
*Burro run Saturday 25th 3 mile, 6 mile and 12 mile loops. The loops consist of a combination of forest road, forest two track, General Crook trail, sand wash and following ribbons thru the brush. Please be prepared to carry your phone and plenty of water. Cell service is spotty but texts go thru.
*All burros need to be checked in by 7:30 AM Saturday
*RULES
Pack Saddles are optional on the 3 and 6 mile run.
Pack saddle, pick, pan and shovel are required to be worn, start to finish, to win awards in the 12 mile run.
If you become separated from your burro, in order to be eligible for awards, you must return to the place you became separated and start again.
Youth of all ages are encouraged to participate. First time youth and adults that need family to help can only enter the 3 mile fun run and are asked to start at the back of the start pack and will not be eligible for awards. (You can’t win a prize if you have a helper pushing your burro.)
Jack chains are allowed but misuse is not.
Donkeys or Burros only.
Directions: Google Maps “Sandam Ranch” gets you here. Our address sometimes sends you to Timbuktu.
Hwy 169, halfway between mile marker 8 & 9 is two black mailboxes and a brown dumpster on the south side of the road. This is forest road 9604K and it dead ends into our property.  Turn south down Forest road 9604K. I will try to have it marked Friday afternoon. Go slow and take corners wide as it gets narrow but we get huge rigs in and out all the time. Our security gate will be open all weekend.
EVENTS AND AWARDS
Friday evening- Mad Ass 100 yard Dash will take place just before sunset. The start line will be the same place as Saturday’s start so great practice for the burro run start! NO JACK CHAINS! No riding. No striking of the animal. You must not become separated from your burro. I hope everyone will enter  it will make a great video!
$10 to enter and winner takes all. We will be serving BBQ sandwiches and coleslaw to all campers for dinner Friday evening.
Saturday Morning- All burros MUST be checked in by 7:30. Start time to be announced. The first part of the run heads up our road so all rigs need to be on the ranch by 7:30. No exception! If you are running late you will be stopped on the forest road for safety reasons.
3 mile fun run, 6 mile trail run and 12 mile race all start together. Carry your own water and your phone. Text Marty (928)925-7928 or Josh (928)814-9272 if you are lost or need help. Trail will be marked at turns and with ribbon when going cross country. If you download the Gaia navigation app I can share the track with you and it will let you navigate on the fly and track your route. If you haven’t used it before download the app and call me I’ll talk you thru sharing. It works off GPS and works when your phone is on airplane mode. We can also do a little tutorial Friday evening but we have no cell service at the ranch so download app at home.
Saturday Afternoon- Costume contest “Superheroes and Villains” $20 to enter and winning entry takes all (If more than 8 entries 1st and 2nd will split 60/40). We will do the beer can chicken BBQ after the contest so if you are camping and would like to join us bring a frozen chicken and side dish.
Sunday morning- The ever popular Obstacle Challenge will be held at or after 8:30 AM. The obstacles will not be posted until just prior to challenge so there will be NO practicing. 5 obstacles on a timed run, one will be a back thru. NO JACK CHAINS allowed. $20 cash to try and winner takes all      . This has been a well attended and enjoyed event in the past.
Awards will be given for first and second place finishers in each distance.  Trail will be monitored by game camera. If you separate from your burro you must go back to where you lost them and start again if you are in contention for an award… Just grab them and go if you are in the back of the pack.
