As the calendar turns over to the month of October, it can only mean one thing- the Javelina shenanigans must begin.
After a year of physical distancing, and a lack of normalness, it is time that we Return to AZ (oz) for this year’s Wizard of Oz twist to the Javelina Jundred.
Now, we know not everyone can join us in person, so we have just the thing for you-- our virtual Javelina shenanigans- Javelina Jallucinations.
Join us the entire month of October for a virtual journey full of fun Javelina themed challenges. Each weekly challenge will be unique and engaging, keeping you motivated throughout the entire month of October while also giving you the opportunity to win prizes from our amazing sponsors.
In addition, you can choose your own journey and unlock various virtual badges as you hit mileage milestones.
October 1st-3rd: Javelina Jot Start presented by GU Energy
Participants will be tasked with logging an activity each of the three days to begin the event. Once they do, they can take a screenshot of their Strava, a photo of their watch, or post a selfie from each run and use the hashtag #ReadySetGU. They will be entered into a raffle to win an Aravaipa Swag Pack, Squirrels Nut Butter, and a GU Variety Pack.
October 4th- 10th: Over the Rainbow presented by rabbit
For this week's challenge we will be asking participants to get social with us! Every day throughout the week, runners will be asked to wear a different color outfit or shirt on their run. Take a photo and at the end of the week make a post using the hashtag #rainbowrabbit and be sure to tag both @JavelinaJundred and @RuninRabbit. If you wore a different color each day, you are entered in for a chance to win Squirrels Nut Butter and some rabbit swag!
October 11th-17th: Follow the Kogalla RA Road
This week’s challenge is quite simple- see how many miles you can get in after dark. To participate, put the total number of miles you ran between the hours of 8pm and 6am in the comments of our dedicated post on Instagram on our @JavelinaJundred page. The winner will receive a free Kogalla light + Aravaipa Merch and some Squirrels Nut Butter. Be sure to have proof of your activities (strava or gps data) so that we can verify it.
October 18th-24th: No Place Like JOME! presented by HOKA
For this week’s challenge runners will be tasked to show us their JOME trails! All you have to do is take a photo and share it with us on Instagram by tagging both @Hoka and @JavelinaJundred and use the hashtag: #JometownJero
October 25th-31st: Return to AZ
It’s finally race week, so let’s go ahead and amp up the festivities! Welcome to our 2021 costume contest! Snap a pic of your Jalloween costume and post it to Instagram. Tag us @JavelinaJundred using the hashtag #AZJalloween. Bonus points if it is Wizard of Oz themed! Our favorite will receive a free entry into the 2022 Javelina Jundred, Squirrels Nut Butter, and an Aravaipa Running swag pack.
Uploading Your Results - Best Practices
Entering your results into the Run Signup dashboard is a very user friendly process. The easiest way is to manually enter your run time, distance, and vert in the Run Signup results portal. You should also be able to upload a .tcx file into the dashboard as well, however different platforms will read the file differently which may cause you to lose vert. To ensure fairness and fun-ness please do your best to follow the best practices listed below.
Please enter your activities frequently. In order to get the most out of this experience, to see your spot on the race leaderboard, and to unlock these amazing badges, we encourage you to enter your results every day.
Keep evidence of your activity. If you want to be considered for any awards during this event, you must have proof of your activity. This can be as simple as sharing your Strava activity links for your runs, or taking a photo of your treadmill screen if you are running indoors. I will reach out to you if I need to see evidence of your activity. Otherwise- we are operating on an honors system-- so be honest :).
ALL RESULTS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 11:59p Arizona Time on October 31st. Please get your results submitted early. If you are having any tech issues at any point during the event please reach out to me. If you don't have your results submitted into the Run Signup Portal by 11:59 p.m. on October 31st, those results will not count. No exceptions.
