Event Description

Gone Too Soon 5K

The Gone Too Soon 5K was created in honor of our brother and friend Ernie Carrillo whose life was lost at the young age of 25. We want to invite everyone who has lost a family member or friend to join us and conquer the Gone Too Soon 5K in honor of their loved one/s. Our goal is to unite the community, spread the love, and support one another.

All proceeds will go to the Ernie Carrillo Scholarship Fund that will benefit high school graduates pursuing a higher education at a trade school, community college, or 4-year university.

Ernie Carrillo Scholarship Fund

Many of us throughout our lives have lost loved ones unexpectedly and quite honestly we do not know how to react. We all deal with the tragic situation in our own manner. The most important factor in all of our struggles is to never forget what our loved ones meant to us and to always live for them. The Ernie Carrillo Scholarship Fund is honoring a loved one of our own, Ernie Carrillo, and we would like to dedicate this scholarship to not only Ernie, but to all loved ones that have gone too soon in our community.

Ernie Carrillo attended San Pedro High School, Los Angeles Harbor College, and California State Dominguez University. He played baseball at all three institutions and was a dedicated baseball fan of all levels. His love for the game of baseball was expressed through his big heart and big smile. Ernie was a loyal friend and fun, loving family member. His friends and family would like to honor his legacy through this scholarship and hopefully we can contribute to the future success of an individual in our community.

This scholarship is open to all seniors at Mary Star of the Sea High School, Port of Los Angeles High School, and San Pedro High School. This scholarship is for any senior student that is planning on attending any establishment of higher learning, for example: trade schools, community colleges, or universities.

This scholarship should be submitted in an essay format including your name, address, phone number, and email address. The essay length is at your discretion and should include background information about yourself, your future education plans, and your career goals. The scholarship should be submitted through mail to the following address: 3412 Kerkhoff Ave., San Pedro, CA 90731. Address all applications to “Ernie Carrillo Scholarship Fund". The application is open from now until Friday, April 27th. The scholarship amount is yet to be determined. The winner will be selected and contacted on May 10th.
