ABOUT CUMBEE CENTER

The Cumbee Center to Assist Abused Persons is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to support and empower domestic violence and sexual violence victims and their families by providing services, reducing the tolerance of abuse, and advocating for social change. We are a safe haven for those fleeing from abuse.  We offer confidential, comprehensive and highly specialized services 24-hours everyday that are completely free.

INTRO

Attracting runners from all over the CSRA and the state of SC, the Whiskey Road Race has been an Aiken tradition for over 40 years. The Whiskey Road Race is our annual fundraiser which allows us to continue our vital services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in the 6 counties we serve. The funds raised by this race allows us to continue operating our agency and providing hope and new beginnings to those who have suffered abuse.

In 2020, the Cumbee Center served 434 new victims of domestic violence and 79 new victims of sexual assault. We provided 96 victims, 2,063 nights of safety at our emergency shelter and provided counseling to 127 individuals. Without community support, we could never achieve so much.

The work we are doing today is only possible because of your support. You make it possible for Cumbee Center to champion the life saving services we provide. Let’s run for THEIR lives. Together.

WHAT IS THE WHISKEY ROAD RACE?

The certified race course takes runners down Whiskey Road, through Aiken’s historic horse district, winding itself through scenic and popular South Boundary Avenue. This beautiful course is designed to challenge runners and walkers alike through the event options of a 10K or 5K, providing a fun and exciting atmosphere for all who attend.  The 5K and 10K are officially time with chip timing.  A digital clock will be displayed. Water will be provided on the course.

WHAT IS THE 100 MILE CHALLENGE?

The challenge is to cycle, hike, run or walk 100 miles between November 1st and November 30th. That is slightly over 3 miles per day. It’s an exciting way to integrate exercise and encourage others to join.

WHAT PARTICIPANT AMENITIES WILL I RECEIVE?

We will have an in-person pickup on November 4th at Academy Sports from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, on November 5th at Odell Weeks from 6:45 am to 7:45 am for race day participants.
