Event Description

Our Regional NAVY MWR Departments have been asked by the San Diego Zoo/Safari Park for volunteers to help BUILD their float that will be show cased in the 2022 Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA!

We are taking 50 volunteers to help build on Saturday, December 11th.  You must be 12+ years old to attend (minors cannot attend unaccompanied).  **THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL MILITARY ID CARD HOLDERS (AND THEIR GUESTS) 12+ YEARS OLD**

The bus will be departing NASNI Visitors Lot at 7am on Saturday, December 11th.  The group will be building for 4 hours and we will depart Pasadena around 3pm.  We are requiring a minimal transportation fee of $10 per person.  YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN FOOD/DRINKS FOR THE DAY.  THERE WILL NOT BE ANY STOPS FOR LUNCH AND NOTHING IS WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE FLOAT BUILDING. There is storage in the bus for small coolers/lunch boxes.

            FLOAT THEME: Zoo/Safari New Branding!

Lion because the zoo started with a ROAR

Condor to your pass success in stopping extinction

Rhino to promote future success in animal life!

The lion on the float represents the founding of our world-famous San Diego Zoo in 1916, as well as the organization’s commitment to lion conservation efforts. The California condor highlights the Alliance’s groundbreaking work to save this species, including the recent discovery that two female California condors were hatched without any genetic contributions from a male, through parthenogenesis—the first time the phenomenon has been observed in this species. The rhino is the icon of our Safari Park and represents the ongoing work at the Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center to save the critically endangered northern white rhino: where only two individuals of this species remain on the planet.

We are closely following all guidelines put in place by Los Angeles County and the City of Pasadena’s Health departments in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all event attendees. With the current mandate in place, effective October 21, 2021, all patrons ages 12 years and older, BE PREPARED to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to attending the Rose Parade and its events. In addition MASKS are required for all events, regardless of vaccination status.
