Event Description

Previously the The Hamden Veterans Run and now has a new name.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the House of Heroes Connecticut. All finishers will receive a finisher dog tag. Top 3 finishers in each age group will receive awards.

The mission of House of Heroes is to recognize and honor military and public safety veterans and/or their spouses who have served our country faithfully and sacrificially. Through service to these veterans and their spouses, House of Heroes, Inc. volunteers attempt to express gratitude that can never be adequately expressed in words alone by.

This event is dedicated to honor Abner Oakes III, a Navy Veteran and the founder of the Hamden Veterans Commission. In 2010 Abner was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame. Abner passed away May 29, 2021.

Event details and schedule

Location:
Town Center Park. Enter at Hamden Middle School (Map)

Parking:
Parking will be available at Hamden Town Center Park. Please enter the park by Hamden Middle School and follow the parking signs. Please do not park in the Library parking lot.

Packet-Pickup:
Packet pickup with be race day from 7:00 am to 8:15 am at the race site. Same day registration will be offered at packet pickup.

Our printer requires us to place our shirt order by October 19th (to ensure the shirts are ready for race day). The volume of shirts we order is based on the number of registrations. The only way to guarantee a t-shirt and/or desired size is to register before the t-shirt deadline.
 
Course Information:
The 5K will start at 8:30 am.

We will start on the grass (We will need to stay on the grass in the park because the road will be open to traffic) then transition to the paved path that goes around the ball fields, where we will pick up the Farmington Canal trail. Both courses are out and back - once you hit the half way mark there will be a turnaround and then you will head back to the finish.

There will be water stops at the half way mark of the 5k, as well as water and snacks at the finish.

 
Awards
Awards are based on overall race time (not on an athletes chip time). We award prizes for the following categories:
Overall Finishers – The Top 3 Males and Females (Overall award winners are not eligible for age group awards)
Age Group Finishers – The top 3 male and female finishers in these age groups (age calculated on race day)
19 and Under
20 – 29
30 – 39
40 – 49
50 – 59
60 – 69
70 and Over
 
Transfers
 If you have registered and cannot race with us, please contact us as soon as possible and we can work with you to transfer your entry into another race or category. All transfers must be completed before online registration closes.
