Event Description

MAJOR TAYLOR CHICAGO SIGNATURE RIDE

This event, Saturday August 22, 2022, marks the 123rd year anniversary of Marshall “Major “Taylor winning the world 1-mile championship in Montreal.  Taylor won the one-mile sprint, to become the first African American to win a world championship in cycling and was our nation's first African American sports hero.

The Major Taylor Trail Keepers bicycle ride in Chicago and its southern suburbs featured a revitalized stretch of the Major Taylor Trail and serves as a fundraiser for the trail's upkeep. With options of 5, 26, 30, 44, 50, 64 or 89 miles, the ride had something for everyone.

Choose from ride options of 5, 26, 30, 44, 50, 64, or 89 miles -- mix and match your choice of five segments to customize your experience. Registration and check in is from 7-7:30. A tribute to Major Taylor and special presentation is from 7:30-7:55am.  All rides start at 8:00 a.m. in the cul de sac of Whistler Woods.

This event is organized by the Major Taylor Trail Keepers Chicago, Friends of the Major Taylor Trail, and Major Taylor Cycling Club Chicago.  More information on the bike routes can be found at http://www.bicycleillinois.com/majortaylor/route/routes.htm
