The Mentoring Matters 5K run/walk hosted by the Follow My Steps nonprofit organization aims to raise awareness for the need for mentorship in under-resourced communities. Follow My Steps is a Springfield Massachusetts-based non-profit organization offering Youth Mentoring, Career & Skill Development, and Financial Resources.
Runners and walkers can register as teams or individuals – and have the option to fundraise as a team. Youth pricing available! (Price reduced when birthday is entered)

The Mentoring Matters 5K will include other activities TBD, including giveaways for participants.  Fundraising prizes will be offered.

Tee Shirt included in registration (limited availability)

Young Adults Who Were At-Risk for Falling Off Track but Had a Mentor Are:

  • 55% more likely to enroll in college
  • 130% more likely to hold leadership positions.
  • 78% more likely to volunteer regularly
  • 90% are interested in becoming a mentor

Our organization is headed by strong black professional individuals with heightened attention to elevating (under-resourced) minority students and their families. We understand that there is a disproportionate representation of minorities in key decision-making positions in all facets of leadership in the current time. We aim to close that gap by providing deserving students with the opportunity for financial, mental, and professional education. By offering mentorships to scholarship recipients, we aim to grow a network of like-minded individuals who will continuously give back to their communities and others alike.

#FMS5K is Follow My Step’s virtual non-competitive 1-mile, 5k, 1000 steps, or any amount of running, walking, stepping or dancing your way to health and sanity, outside or in the comfort of your own home, while you support us in our mission to empower the youth through mentorship. You can do this challenge ANY TIME from the present moment to September 23rd. Complete your self-challenge and upload (if you like) photos of yourself post-challenge with the hashtag #FMS5K. You’ll get more information about this when you register! All ages and abilities welcomed!!
The fee for #FMS5K is $20 – a donation to help obtain resources needed for the youth to thrive in our communities. You will receive an acknowledgement of gratitude!

What will the $20 go to? $20 can allow us to:
Provide school supplies to students that do not have the means to acquire themselves
Provide financial aid to college bound students
Host workshops designed to teach kids the skills needed to succeed
