Event Description

The Friends of the Oswegatchie Hills Nature Preserve (FOHNP) invites you to the first annual ‘Run For The Hills’ 5K trail run through an amazing rugged forest, teeming with wildlife and filled with beautiful ponds, streams, and rock formations. The course takes you by the beautiful Clark Pond and around the perimeter of the beautiful nature preserve. All proceeds from the race go directly to maintaining this special place of quiet beauty for future generations to enjoy.

The Run is hosted by the FOHNP, a non-profit organization dedicated to the management and expansion of the Preserve. In addition to creating, marking and maintaining approximately seven miles of trails, the Friends are fighting hard to prevent inappropriate over-development of this special place.

Event details and schedule

Registration, bib pick-up and pre-race concessions start at 10 AM, the race begins at 11AM.

This is a chip-timed event with all runners traveling by beautiful Clark Pond. There is ample parking adjacent to preserve, with overflow at the Town Hall, 108 Pennsylvania Ave., Niantic. Post-race festivities and awards start at noon at the kiosk and continues at our sponsor the Niantic Public House and Brewery, where we will have a silent auction and local foods available. A free beer ticket from the Niantic Public House will be provided to those finishers who have a valid ID and are at least 21 years old as of race day. We are thrilled to be joined by Amby Burfoot our guest of honor and will have live music by 'The Lowtiders'! Come join the fun!

The first 100 registered participants will receive an Oswegatchie Hills trail map bandana.

Pre-registration ends on Thursday, May 19th; race fees will go up $5.00 on Friday, May 20, 2022. Same day registration will be offered at packet pickup.

Be prepared for a beautiful adventure on the 100% dirt trails with lots of ups and downs, single track trail with spring growth unfolding around you.

Schedule:

• 10:00am – Registration & Packet Pickup
• 11:00am – Trail Race Starts
• 12 Noon – Award Ceremony
• Post-Race festivities continues at the Niantic Public House at 243 Main St., with a silent auction

• This is a chip timed event with 7 age groups
• Prizes awarded to the top three men and women in each category.
• Register early to get your Hills Trail-Map Bandana
• Bring your own water bottles - Water and bathroom facilities available
• Race results will be posted online immediately after the race
• Please note - no dogs with runners on the trails
