Event Description

The "First In State" Fun Run is hosted by the cadets in the '89er Battalion, Guthrie High School JROTC. The Guthrie JROTC program is the first JROTC program in the State of Oklahoma, dating back to 1935. As a fun run, we encourage competitive runners, recreational runners as well as walkers; walk your dog, push a stroller or simply enjoy the fellowship of your friends and neighbors. This a community fund raising event for the students and the proceeds will support educational and leadership training opportunities for the students in JROTC. A portion of the proceeds will support Veteran organizations and charities. 

LOCATION: The Start / Finish line is at Honor Park in Downtown Guthrie, near 301 West Harrison Avenue across from the Oklahoma Publishing Museum

RUN ROUTE: From Honor Park you will run right on Oklahoma Ave. to the Masonic temple (turn around point). You will return on Oklahoma Ave. and turn left on 2d Street. Run past the start / finish line along 2d Street then through Mineral Wells Park them back on 2d Street to the finish line. Total distances is 2.9 miles. Course marshals will be present along the run route. 

PARKING: The parking lot on Harrison Ave. between 1st and 2d streets is available for run participants. Parking along Harrison Ave. is also permitted east of 2d street.

This fun run will be held in conjunction with Guthrie's 89'er day parade and celebration. Come out for the parade, carnival, food trucks, and MORE!!
Oklahoma's '89er Day Celebration, is an annual April event commemorating Oklahoma's first land run on April 22, 1889. The City of Guthrie, site of much of the Land Run's initial settlement and the first Territorial Capital, held the inaugural '89er Day Celebration on the famous land opening's first anniversary.

Severe Weather Policy
Weather forecasts are tracked before the race for heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds, etc. If there is a possibility of threatening weather, information will be posted on the Guthrie JROTC Facebook Page and other event social media pages to alert participants of possible course changes.  No Refunds will be given if the event is cancelled due to severe weather.
