Event Description

Kipp Kinsley was a gifted runner and triathlete. Kipp was a dedicated athlete who loved being one of the elite athletes who competed nationally in triathlons. Kipp was recognized as an “Elite Athlete” by USA Triathlon, and was an Ironman “All World Athlete”. Kipp died of Sudden Cardiac Arrest on August 26th, 2018; one day after winning Yankton’s Best Tri, and just weeks before he would embark on a career as a professional triathlete.

BeKipp Foundation, a IRS 501c3 Not for Profit, was set up to increase awareness and preparedness for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA is the abrupt loss of heart function, which can lead to death if not treated immediately. BeKipp Foundation has provided Automatic External Defibrillators and education to schools, running clubs and youth organizations to better prepare them for a SCA event. We encourage coaches, trainers and athletes to prepare for SCA - and carry an AED with you to all practices and events!

A running event has been set up each year to remember Kipp in Yankton, South Dakota.  One of Kipp’s favorite training venues was on the bike trail at Lewis and Clark State Park. This year we will be doing a 5K (3.18 mile) Memorial Competetive Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.  Both events start at the Midway Beach at Lewis and Clark Recreation Area, running along the scenic shoreline and returning through beautiful pines and meadows found among the camp sites. The course has several gradual elevation changes and is all paved. The finish line will be at Midway Beach near the start line.  There is a short program about sudden cardiac arrest prior to the start of the race.  All proceeds from the race go toward the purchase of AEDs for organizations in need of the lifesaving technology.

Awards for Best Finishers Male and Female Competetive 5K only - 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, >50
