Event Description

The Freedom Run 5K is one of many events taking place to celebrate Juneteenth, a national holiday which honors the end to slavery in the United States. The 2.5-mile walk is in honor of Opal Lee, the 94-year-old who is known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” for her efforts to make it a federal holiday. Training walks/runs are held every Thursday at Cottonwood Park at 7pm (Meet at the SW corner of N Clovis Ave & Alluvial Ave, Clovis, CA 93612 - lots of parking by the pond on Alluvial) and Saturdays at Woodward Park at 9:00am (Meet at the entrance of N Fort Washington Rd & N Friant Rd, Fresno, CA 93730 – parking fee is $5).
