Description

This Is a brand new event for 2022!

The 5k will kick off the New Kensington Fitness Festival. Come prepared to participate in the 5k and stay after for a ton more fun, healthy activities and food. The festival is in downtown New Kensington where its really starting to shine once again. Tons of new Businesses are popping up all the time and pedestrian traffic has picked up substantially. Come and see what the buzz is about. Bring a few sets of clothes to enjoy all the activities. Watch for all the exciting things and schedule of events for the Fitness Festival which will be coming soon.

The course has you run around the downtown area up then down several different streets all thru the newer redeveloped business area. There are a few turns along the course. The turns have you weaving away from the start line area before making one big loop bringing you back to the finish line area which will be like 30 feet from the start line. You only repeat one small section that is maybe a tenth of a mile. The rest of the course does not repeat at all so you get to experience a lot of different places as you run around town.

Its a pretty flat course. It has less then 100 feet of gain. Its all on asphalt. There will be people at each intersection directing you which way to go so you don’t have to worry about going the wrong way. It is not a completely closed course but for the most part will be race day. The roads they are not we will have someone stopping traffic so you can breeze right through.

There will be one water stop along the course. This is just shy of the halfway mark. This is the section you repeat. We made it this way so you can run by grabbing a drink on the way out to the turn which will be maybe 10 yards away, then you can grab a drink again if you choose as you come back through. Please keep cups or other garbage within a few feet of the water stop. Do not litter along the course. If caught you will be DQ'd.

The course does go through a small grassy park to help promote it as well. This will still be on a asphalt surface around this park. Road shoes are recommended for the course since its strictly all on road. There will be a official course video once the final route is established. There is a preview of the route now on youtube at https://youtu.be/RPyPHaSlBZk  the two big tweaks are the grassy lot that we ran thru and the dirt bankment we went down. Those are eliminated we were just testing the route and getting a feel of distance.
