Event Description

The Claxton-Evans County Chamber of Commerce is proud to sponsor the 26th Annual Cruisin’ in the Country Bicycle Ride, Saturday, November 12th, 2022.  

This year’s event will be headquartered at the Evans County Public Fishing Area Event Center, 4757 Area Line Road, Claxton, Georgia. This beautiful Public Fishing Area, owned and operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources is a 372-acre tract near the town of Daisy that features 3 lakes, primitive camping sites, a new campground with 22 campsites complete with electricity, water, picnic table and fire ring. Six route options will be offered: 16- mile, 24- mile, 37- mile, 50- mile, 66- mile and the 100- mile, “Royce Smith Century Route”. Smith, a former UGA All-American football player, passed away unexpectedly in 2004. A co-founder of Cruisin’, he will always be remembered as having put his heart and soul into building this event. Maps and cue sheets are available to download and will also be available for pick-up at Cruisin’ headquarters. You can also access route information via Active.com

Route Options

Cruisin’ is a family friendly bicycle ride. It is not a race. Six different ride options will be offered to ensure there’s a ride suited for each skill level. Whatever route you choose, you will travel roads with minimal traffic and enjoy the beautiful countryside. While riding, you will benefit from SAG vehicles patrolling the routes as well as our award-winning, friendly, themed rest stops located every 10 to 20 miles. Rest stops will be stocked with water, Power-Ade, and various snacks. In addition, port-a-potties and/or rest rooms, and hand-washing stations will be available at each stop.

Registration

We are pleased to offer 3 registration schedules for Cruisin’. Early Bird registration is $45 and will be offered June 1st until August 31st. The registration fee for September 1st through October 31st is $55. Registration from November 1st through November 12th (including walk-up registrations) is $65. Active and retired military can register for $45, at any time. (Please note – event t-shirts CANNOT be guaranteed for registrations received after October 1st.)

You can download a registration form (www.claxtonevanschamber.com) and mail in with payment. To register by credit card, log on to www. Active.com. On-site registration will be offered at Cruisin’ Headquarters, Saturday, November 12th, beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Post Ride Meal

A complimentary post ride meal is included with your registration fee. The post ride meal will be offered on Saturday, November 12th, from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm at Cruisin’ Headquarters. The menu will be posted soon. Regular, Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free options available. Please indicate special dietary needs on your registration form. 

Lodging and Camping

This year’s event will be headquartered at the Evans County Public Fishing Area, 4757 Area Line Road, Claxton, Georgia. This beautiful 372- acre site is owned and operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and features a campground with 22 campsites complete with electricity, water, picnic table, fire ring and a comfort station with showers. Catfish Creek RV Campground is located just 10 miles from Claxton on Highway 301 North with full hook-ups. Call (912) 654-2278 for information. http://www.catfishcreekrv.com

Fort-C Truck Park and Campground, located at 325 North Duval Street, Claxton, GA 30417. Park provides a cabin for restrooms and hand washing. Park also provides Overnight Full hookup sites for some style RV campers. Reservations made at Campspot.com, look for Claxton GA and then book a spot there. Five full hookups, one tent site, and one tiny cabin. Restrooms provided. (912) 237-3608

Beaver Run RV Park, located off I-16 just 14 miles from Claxton, offers 28 acres of camping with full hook-ups, cable, and free Wi-Fi.  For information call (912) 362-4737 or log on to www.beaverrunrvpark.com.

The Jack Hill State Park in Reidsville is a short 14 miles to the west of Claxton on Highway 280 and offers tent and RV sites. The George L.
