Event Description
I am a student at South Stanly High School and I have have been blessed with many opportunities this school year to include participating in the Nike Indoor Nationals and the Adidas Indoor Nationals, where I placed 6th in the 1600 meter event with a time of 4:28. My plans are to compete at the national level for the outdoor track and field season and qualify for the June 16th-18th, 2023, Adidas Track Nationals. In preparation for achieving the qualification into this event, as well as others, my parents, coach, and I are preparing to confront the challenging expenses. We have created this race to help cover the expenses required to participate in this wonderful event. Our goal is $1000 dollars and donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. The first 50 registrants are guaranteed a shirt on race day. Sponsor ads on shirts may be purchased by contacting Joy Huneycutt at 704-791-2324; Logo ads will be $100; name only ads will be $50. All interested sponsors must contact Joy Huneycutt by Monday, May 1st, 2023.
The race will begin in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church of Norwood. We will have sponsor stations and race day registration set up under the picnic area. The shirt pick up will be at 8:15 that morning before the race. We will begin our 1-mile Fun Run at 8:30. 5k racers will be gathered at 9:00 to line up.
The 5k race will begin on East Turner Street. Racers will make their way down East Turner Street and turn right on to Allenton Street. Next, racers will make their way down Allenton Street until they reach South Strand Drive and make a right turn. Racers will then continue on South Strand Drive until they reach Harbor Road and make a second right turn. As racers maneuver this portion of the course, they will come to Island Cove Road and make their final right turn. At the end, on Island Cove Road, racers will make a left turn back on to Allenton Street and continue to the finish line. We will have volunteers directing racers and signs defining the course throughout the race.
