Event Description

Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge is a Vineyard tradition on the 4th of July! This race has been in existence for over 20 years, with Murdick's Fudge the presenting sponsor of this event. The race has raised over $100,000 for island based youth programs including the Martha's Vineyard Boys & Girls Club and Rotary of Martha's Vineyard. Through the support of our volunteers, the community of Vineyard Haven, and of course our runners, this race continues to be a huge success and a great way to kick off the 4th! The race is a 5 mile loop around West Chop, traditionally beginning at the Tisbury School on William Street, about 5 blocks up from the boat dock. Meant for the whole family, the race includes a fun run for the kids, followed by the main event at 9 am.   

To avoid race day lines, you may pick up your bib at Murdick's Fudge in Vineyard Haven on Sunday, July 3rd from 4:00-5:00 pm. Otherwise, you can pick it up on race day from 7:00-8:30 am at the American Legion Hall located at 34 William Street, Vineyard Haven. Please note the location as this has changed from previous years. We will NOT be doing registration or bib pick up at the Tisbury School.

Late in-person registrations will be taken at Murdick's in Vineyard Haven on Sunday from 4 - 5 pm, and on race morning from 7 - 8.30. Cash or check only!

Please note that because of construction at the Tisbury School, the race course had to be adjusted this year. The course will start AND finish at the same place-----right next to the American Legion on William Street. The distance is slightly more than 5 miles.

Also, please note: PARKING IS VERY LIMITED. You cannot park at the school this year. Please make arrangements to find street parking, use the Tisbury Park and Ride, bike, or get someone to drop you off.
