Event Description
Join us on September 3, 2022 at Quiet Waters Park for a fun family event, the Dino Dash 5K Run/Walk benefiting the 4 Families Foundation. The Dino Dash 5K is a chipped timed event with awards provided to the top 3 (male and female) overall and age groups. All participants will receive an awesome race package including the personalized race bib with participants name printed and RFID timing chip, Dino Dash 5K shirt, and beautiful finisher medal. We will have activities at the event for all families to enjoy.
The Dino Dash 5K was created for Rocco Passaro. Rocco was diagnosed with leukemia on June 30th,2021. We immediately started treatment at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital on July 1st where Rocco was given a port, bone marrow biopsy, and his first Intrathecal chemo treatment. After a 7 day hospital stay we were able to come home and continue weekly treatments. Unfortunately, on August 2nd we received news that Rocco’s body was not responding to treatment the way we all hoped he would. Our team thought it was best for him to start the second round of chemotherapy as soon as possible. So on August 4th we started our second round of chemotherapy. After 56 days and countless sleepless night we received the best news that Rocco’s body was responding to chemo. Throughout this journey our boy has won every battle he has faced.
Most recently after 11 months of battling cancer Rocco one faced his toughest battle to date. He is was not breathing on his own and his liver and intestinal track had taken a serious hits. He is still recovering from liver disease and has overcome respiratory failure along with a small intestinal blockage. After 2 weeks of being intubated and many touch and go moments Rocco’s body was able to recover enough to be extubated. Rocco is currently still in the the hospital going through rehab to learn how to walk again and strengthen his body to be able to complete everyday tasks. Throughout these past 6 weeks in the hospital we have seen many families struggling to provide basic needs for their families while their are in the hospital caring for another. While we have always done our been to pay it forward anytime we’re in the hospital we would love to be able to bless many more families. The Dino Dash 5k will allow us to raise awareness and funds for the families of pediatric cancer. Being able to bless families with meals and basic necessities will allow us to relive some major stressors that come with every hospital stay.
