Event Description
Join Team Griffin's Friends in our 28th year for Color for the Kids this September 25th! Prepare for a colorful morning on the campus of Western New England University as you run or walk this 5K untimed course while having a bit of color added to your outfit by our volunteer color throwers. After the race hang out for music, food trucks, and fun. Color for the Kids logo t-shirt (yep, it's white and ready to be pelted with color) and sunglasses are included with your registration!
This event will benefit the Griffin’s Friends Children’s Cancer Fund at Baystate Health Foundation, which provides a number of services and benefits to the patients in treatment.
About Griffin's Friends
Griffin's Friends Children's Cancer Fund is a nonprofit organization in Springfield, Massachusetts, part of Baystate Health Foundation, Inc., and founded in honor of a young boy, Griffin D. Kelleher, who struggled with and died of cancer at the age of 14 months. Volunteers help to provide relief for families and children in their times of need. Team Griffin's Friends and its volunteers help to plan parties, trips to sporting events, picnics, and many other sources of entertainment for the children, siblings, and families of the pediatric oncology clinic at Baystate Children's Hospital, which this organization benefits. As an organization, we also purchase toys, art supplies, computers, and other things for recreational use for the inpatient wing of Baystate Children's Hospital.
FAQ
WILL RUNNING THROUGH THE COLOR ZONES AFFECT MY VISION OR BREATHING?
The color powder being used is all certified non-toxic and free of any heavy metals. Our bright colors are a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C (food-safe) dyes. Runners can opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or mask for their mouths.
CAN CHILDREN PARTICIPATE? ARE STROLLERS ALLOWED?
If your child can cover the three miles (while running, jogging, walking, or strolling), they can absolutely participate! And yes! You’re welcome to bring strollers or wagons to The Color for Kids 5k. Just keep in mind they might get colorful.
WILL THE COLOR RUIN MY CLOTHES OR RUNNING SHOES?
The color mostly washes out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. It’s best to wear items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful. A wash station and plastic seat covers for your car will be available to you!
