Event Description

Join us for a fun 5K Obstacle Course Run at GoFar USA Park (https://gofarusapark.com/) to help fund the construction of the Shree Bhawani Basic School in the most remote region in Nepal, Humla!

Run, walk, crawl! You pick!

Be prepared for some seriously colorful fun on the trail and help us give 100 children the gift of education!

We are raising $20,000 to help build a solid self-insulated school building with electricity, featuring a library and classrooms with improved toilets, water supply and sanitation facilities.

The school will be equipped with books and other necessary school materials including a computer and internet, as well as furniture such as tables, chairs, benches, and racks. We will also be able to provide nutritious food for the children and staff while at school.

This project will also make it possible to hire 7 (seven) qualified full-time teachers and many other people to help with construction, such as local porters and mountain guides. We will be able to support the local economy by sourcing food and building materials from local vendors.

The province of Humla is the highest, most remote, and isolated district of Nepal, situated in the Northwest part of the country. This province does not have an established road access, connecting it to the rest of the world. The only way to reach it is by air or on foot. Its approximately 55,000 inhabitants are dispersed in the valleys of the Himalayas (at altitudes ranging between 5,000 feet and 23,950 feet). The region is vast but only houses a very small number of schools located in the main area of Simikot to service the whole area.

The unavailability of easily accessible education along with the high level of poverty in the region contribute to tremendous levels of illiteracy among adults and children. According to the latest statistical report from District Education Office Humla, the literacy rate of Humla is 47%. Approximately 40% of children never go to school due to poverty. In two thirds of the district, there is no secondary school. Only 2.6% of children pass the SLC, the final exam of secondary education. In Humla, many schools lack basic infrastructure such as blackboards, desks and chairs, teaching equipment, and skilled and motivated teachers. Only a few students can afford pencils or copy books. YOLO Dream Adventure Travel has partnered with the Rural Empowerment and Development Initiative (READI) Nepal - a Nepali non-governmental organization established to work with communities to prevent, manage, and overcome situations that adversely affect a community’s wellbeing – whether environmental, social, financial, or otherwise. READI Nepal believe that its approach will help rural Nepalese communities to take big strides in the development front without compromising their indigenous and cultural beliefs and knowledge systems.

Together we will improve the lives of the people of Humla by raising funds to help build and provide an accessible, school building where children will have an equal opportunity to reach their full potential through education.

Join us for this fun event and let's build a school together!
