Event Description

Every Step is One Step Closer to the Cure

Racing to Save Lives

The World AIDS Marathon, half marathon, 10 and 5K races will be presented by the Rockaway Business Alliance to benefit the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation. Proceeds will go to funding local and International projects including hospitals/medical facilities that help people living with HIV/AIDS and cancer, 4 orphan dinner dances in Kenya for 800 - 1,000 Kenyan orphans + medical care for 300 orphans, and a day of art and music for special needs kids in Kenya. Proceeds in America will be donated to St. John's Episcopal Hospital and Family Health Centers Long Island FQHC.

Thank you for believing in the work of the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation. I promised myself back in 2002 that if my life were spared from HIV and brain cancer I would do everything I could do to help others less fortunate. If running marathons will help convince our Government and world leaders that 680,000 people need not die from AIDS every year, then I pray that G-d will give me the strength to continue running marathons. Let’s just get the AIDS medicine and follow-up medical care to people living with HIV all over the world. At the same time let’s make sure that clean drinking water and adequate, nutritious food is available for the medicine to be effective. Please join me in making a commitment to the 14,900,000 orphans who have lost one or both parents to AIDS that we will never forget these children. They could just as easily be our children if we were born in Africa. The pictures noted on the website, http://www.worldaidsmarathon.com/ show the orphan dinner dances the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation has sponsored since 2006. Also pictured are Dr. Richard L. Sartori from Long Island, Dr. Julian Howard of Australia and Dr. Benson Bonyo and his medical team from Akron, Ohio examining the orphans, and Mama Sarah, President Obama's grandmother, flagging off the 2008 World AIDS Marathon and giving $1,000 in prize money every year since 2008 to the fastest runners. The prize money is donated by the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation. We like to think of ourselves as a mini-mini Doctors without Borders except we have an advantages, not only do the doctors get to examine and treat the orphans, they also get to dine and dance and play soccer with the orphans. Since 2006, the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation has sponsored 45 festive orphan dinner dances for 12,139 Kenyan orphans and caretakers + medical care for 2,916 orphans and caretakers. For 2022, the Richard M.  Brodsky Foundation with your help will be sponsoring 4 festive orphan dinner dances + providing medical care, art lessons for 20 special needs kids, a concert for special needs, and a fashion show with donated clothing and accessories from America… all these events will be organized from December 10 – 19, 2022.
