Event Description

Race participants begin and end the 5k at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. After the race, participants can enjoy free breakfast prepared by Parks and Recreation staff and reunite with their children for the annual Truck or Treat event. Trucks from Christiansburg Fire, Police, Rescue and Public Works set up in the back parking lot of the Recreation Center for kids and kids at heart to look at and touch.   

Event details and schedule

Packet pick-up and race day registration: Begins at 7:30 a.m. on race day at the Christiansburg Recreation Center. Race day registration for all events will close promptly at 8:30 a.m.

RACE START TIME:

FUN RUN - 8:45 AM

5K - 9:00 AM

Awards:

Adult Participant – Most Creative Costume  (Pumpking, Gift Certificate)                                

17 & under Participant – Most Creative Costume (Pumpkin, Gift Certificate)

The top male and female finishers will receive an award and prize money in the following amounts:

1st - $100; 2nd - $50; 3rd - $25 (Each will also receive a decorated pumpkin)

Age Groups: (Top 3 males and females in each of the following age groups will receive medals)

5K Run        9 – 12, 13 – 19, 20 – 29, 30 – 39, 40- 49, 50 – 59, 60 +

Fun Run      10 and under (Participants will receive a medal)

5K Runners are eligible for one award. Awards will not be mailed.

 Course:

The race will begin on Cambria Street and follow the street until it intersects with the Huckleberry Trail. Participants will then make a right turn to follow the Huckleberry Trail behind the Spradlin Farms Shopping Center and Wal-Mart. They will then cross the Renva W. Knowles Bridge and follow the trail below the New River Valley Mall parking lot. They will make a right-hand turn to run up the hill toward the NRV Mall Parking lot, run through the back parking lot (next to the guard rail) and reconnect with the Huckleberry Trail. Once back on the trail, they will run back over the Renva W. Knowles Bridge, behind the Spradlin Farms Shopping Center and Wal-Mart, and back to the Christiansburg Recreation Center. There will be police monitoring traffic along the 5K course.

 Post-Race: Awards ceremony will follow as soon as possible after the 5k.

Race participants will receive FREE breakfast (pumpkin pancakes, apple cider, water, bananas, apples) refreshments.

Truck or Treat for the children will run from  9-12:00 a.m.

 Results: Will be posted at www.christiansburg.org/recreation the Monday after the race.

 Restrooms: Available at Christiansburg Recreation Center (no showers).
