Event Description
Reevis Begay Foundation is sponsoring a memorial 10K and 5K Races in memory of Reevis Begay. On July 07, 2012, Reevis was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer. Three months later on October 11, 2012, Reevis lost his battled with colon cancer. Reevis was an avid runner and assisted with the Shiprock Marathon for over 20years before his diagnosis. He also loved to volunteer his time to other organizations.
Reevis Begay Memorial 10K and 5K on October 09, 2022. The race distance is 10K (6.2 miles) and the 5K is (3.1 miles).
REGISTRATION: Online registration is now open through October 09, 2022. On-site registration will be on Sunday, October 09, 2022. Registration for the 5K Run/Walk is $20 and 10K Run is $40. Registration will include an event t-shirt, a unique RBF medal and race bib.
LOCATION: Two miles north of Littlewater, NM (22miles south of Shiprock) just off of Highway 491 on Rd 8760. There will be plenty of parking.
COVID GUIDELINES: The race will abide by CDC COVID guidelines set forth by the Navajo Nation Health Department.
- The race is a single loop course 10K and 5K.
- Runners must wear a mask when picking up packets and when around the start/finish line area. Masks may be removed while running on the course.
- There will be hand sanitizers throughout the race event. We ask that all runners, spectators and volunteers practice social distancing throughout the event.
- There will be two aid stations with gels and water. We will have fruits and water at the finish line. A lunch to go box can be picked up curbside at Begay residence in Littlewater, which is a 1/4 mile south of LIttlewater Store.
PACKET PICK-UP: Packet pick-up will be available on Sunday, October 09, 2022 on site.
COURSE: 5K Run/Walk will go 1.55 miles east on Rd 8760, turn around and back to the start/finish line. 10K Run will go 3.1 miles east on Rd 8760, turn around at the halfway point and back to the start/finish line.
AWARDS: All runners/walkers will receive a finisher's medal and t-shirt. The top male and female finishers in the 10K Run will receive a Fine Contemporary Carving/Sculpture created by Artist Cecil Miles, Jr.
