Event Description

 
The 28th Annual TarWheel Cycling Event takes place on Saturday, April 15, 2023, on a scenic, flat, countryside course through the beautiful Pasquotank County in northeastern NC. You have the option of 33, 64, or 100 mile rides.  The rides start on the waterfront in downtown Elizabeth City at Dog Corner Park (600 Southern Avenue). You'll cycle by multiple waterfront areas and the majestic countryside, passing farmlands, pastures, barns, and historic homes. You'll pedal by horses, cows, birds, turtles, and other wildlife. Our countryside skylines are amazing!
 
This year's ride will be in memory of Ed Taylor, who passed away on April 9, 2022, the day of the 2022 TarWheel Cycling Event. Ed was a huge part of the area cycling community, led and organized the TarWheel Cycling Event, and was president of the  River City Cycling Club for many years.  
 
There will be coffee, water, juice, and light snacks before the ride (we'll be bringing back our famous Balls, Bacon, Bananas, and Brews); and our usual great SAG stops during the ride with the famous devilled eggs, banana bread, smoothies, sweet potato biscuits; "sweet cycling crack," PBandJs, and more! Enjoy a "hot dog bar" with lots of add-ons (including bacon) and drinks post-ride.  
 
Come early on Friday evening, April 14th for the Early Packet Pick-up at Pailin's Alley (606 E. Colonial Avenue) and get a ticket for a free craft brew. Stay through Sunday and enjoy our charming little town and some optional (non-supported) rides.

Packet Pickup: 
Friday evening: April 14, 2023, 4:00-7:00 pm, Pailin's Alley, 606 E. Colonial Ave, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. (*Free Craft Beer Voucher for those picking up packets on Friday evening)

Saturday morning: April 15, 2022, 7:00-9:00 am, Dog Corner Park, 600 Southern Avenue, Elizabeth City, NC 27909

Start/Finish:

Registration & Day-of Check-in: Dog Corner Park, 600 Southern Avenue, Elizabeth City.

Parking:

Parking available at Dog Corner Park (600 Southern Ave.), Waterfront Park (508 S. Water Street), and City Municipal Parking Lot (309 S. Poindexter St.)

T-shirt and/or t-shirt size not guaranteed for registrations received after April 5, 2023. 

REQUIRED: Signed Waivers; Helmets; Adult permission and ride supervision for any young adult or kid under the age of 16
