Event Description

Have you ever been on the Lone Star Hiking Trail? It is the longest continuous hiking trail in Texas, running through the towering pineywoods of the Sam Houston National Forest. This is a beautiful, well maintained single track trail, come experience this natural beauty right in Houston's backyard!

This race is the first event in the Running The Sam series and it's hosted at Double Lake Recreation Area; we will have a trail run for everyone, starting with our favorite event, a mile trail run for little ones; then offering increasingly longer distances for all levels of runners:

New to trails? Try the 5k or 10mi routes, it's the flattest of the routes but you will still get to experience the beautiful Lone Star Hiking Trail, a true gem of a trail in the Sam Houston National Forest.

Want something spicier? Take the 25k or 50k routes traveling farther into the Sam.
The course will be will be well marked and supported with water, electrolytes and snacks at the aid stations.
