Event Description

With Fairfax County being one of the wealthiest counties in our nation, it's surprising to hear that there are a significant number of children who do not have enough food to eat on a regular basis. In 2019, 23,000 children experienced food insecurity. Now, because of COVID-19 and record inflation that number has doubled, leaving 1 in every 6 kids in Fairfax County suffering from food insecurity.

The Feed Fairfax 5K on May 7th, 2023 is a fun 3.1 mile road race through the Greenbriar neighborhood in Fairfax. The race is organized with community partners to raise money and provide food for kids in Fairfax County suffering from food insecurity.

What makes this race incredibly unique is that after the race, all participants and volunteers will have the opportunity to assemble Power Packs for elementary school children within our community.

This year we have added an optional Mighty Mile Challenge for all 5K race participants. The first male and female 5K runner that crosses the 1-mile mark in the race will win a $100 cash prize, sponsored by Molly Craig, Realtor®.

FREE PHOTOS:
We will be posting them on our site under the results section shortly after the race. Ensure your number is facing front and visible as you finish as you will be able to sort and find the photos by your race number.

Many children rely on free and reduced-price meals at school for food. A Power Pack, which contains seven meals, helps to alleviate hunger for local children in need over the weekend when not in school. All of the Power-Packs assembled at the runner's village will be distributed after the race and eaten the next weekend (12-14 May). Last year in the last two years we had over 800 people participate in the race, we packed and donated 50,452 meals and raised $69,983. This year we are trying to raise $65,000, which will allow us to pack and fund over 23,000 meals for hungry children in our county!
