Event Description

The Valkyrie Relay is Utah’s only multisport relay race, spanning over 100 miles of Utah’s spectacular ‘Wasatch Back’ mountain range. The event pits teams of up to 9 specialized competitors against each other, racing against the clock, and exchanging between trail running, kayak/canoe paddling, road running, mountain biking, stand-up paddle boarding, open water swimming, and road cycling.

The race begins with the Trail Run (TRL) at Jordanelle Reservoir along the Jordanelle Perimeter Trail, followed by the Paddle (PAD) in the Southeast arm of Jordanelle Reservoir, then the Road Run (RDR) from Jordanelle Reservoir, through parts of Midway City and Heber City, finishing at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center where racers exchange with Mountain Bikers (MTB). The Mountain Bike finish will kick off the Road Cycle (RCY) leg of the race. A second timing chip is used for the Paddleboard and Swim legs at Deer Creek Reservoir. Your team can start the Paddleboard course using the second timing chip as soon as your Mountain Biker begins their journey on the course at Soldier Hollow (a race official will radio to the start line of the SUP telling your teammate to start their leg, handing off to the Swim (SWM) racers when they finish. Once your Paddle Boarder and Swimmer are finished, both will head back to Soldier Hollow Nordic Center to see your road cyclist finish, ending the relay for your team. Times for the SUP/SWM legs will be combined with times for the other five legs for your total team time. While some sport legs can be raced concurrently (e.g. MTB and SUP), in order to accommodate athletes who will compete in multiple sports, these can be run in sequence.
