Binghamton University to host third annual 5k in memory of Gregg Wenzel ‘91

Binghamton University will host the third annual Wenzel Memorial 5k in honor of Gregg Wenzel ’91, to be held Saturday, October 14, 2023.  The event will consist of a 5k run/walk on and around campus.  It is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community.

Wenzel was a triathlete and former student-athlete at Binghamton who competed on the men’s varsity swimming and diving team.  He was killed in a car accident in July 2023 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he was working as a CIA directorate of operations.

Race check in and on-site registration will take place in front of the West Gym at the Gregg Wenzel Memorial statue on Bearcat Blvd.   Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in separate age categories.   Photos and results will be posted after the event.

Online pre-registration only will begin August 1, 2023.  Those that register before or on Friday, September 29, 2023 will receive a free t-shirt.  Online registration will end on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. 

Day of race registration will start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 8:45 a.m.  The race will begin at 9 a.m.

Individual participant race fees are $10.00 for students and $20.00 for all others.  The fee includes the race, a t-shirt (only if registered by September 29, 2023) and post-race refreshments.   Entrants must be 13 years or older.
