Event Description

This summer we will have some opportunities for you to do "Open Track". This is FREE for all current and future Stevens student-athletes (grades 7-12). Other Rapid City Area School students may attend if their coaches are helping out as well.

We will have opportunities for sprints, hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault and javelin. Distance runners will also have some workouts with our distance coach. Distance running information can be found at runninraiders.com.

(Hurdles and Field Events starting on Monday - June 5 at SIOUX PARK) Hurdles will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:00am-8:00am. High jump will meet on Mondays at 8:00am-9:00am, long jump will meet on Wednesdays at 8:00am-9:00am and triple jump will meet on Fridays at 8:00am-9:00am.

(Pole vault starts on Monday - June 5 at STEVENS) Pole Vault will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30am-9:00am.

Javelin will start later in June. If interested contact Paul Ferdinand at paul.ferdinand@k12.sd.us

The summer "GET FAST" speed training sessions at Sioux Park are FREE for all current and future Stevens student-athletes who are looking at wanting to improve their speed for track & field, football, soccer, basketball, softball volleyball and more.

We recommend you attend two sessions per week ideally, Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays but whatever works best on a weekly basis like even a Monday & Thursday is fine too. Depending on numbers, we may drop some sections, combine some sections or even add some additional sections. The Tuesday & Thursday speed sessions are the best fit for track & field athletes who would like to also try some of the field events or hurdles on Mondays & Wednesdays.

We will have two times available at SIOUX PARK- 7:00am-8:00am (Girls) and 8:00am-9:00am (Boys) but if you have conflicts you are welcome to attend the other time slot if necessary.

We will work on sprint mechanics (wear a good pair of running shoes) for the first 15-20 minutes followed by timed sprints for about 20-25 minutes (wear track spikes if you have them) finishing with some strength work for the last 15-20 minutes. If you already do strength work elsewhere you can skip out on the strength work that we do at the end and just do the first 40-45 minutes of speed work.

The "GET FAST" speed sessions and "OPEN TRACK" events are totally free but we ask that you register so we can get an ideal of numbers and have emergency contact information and liability waivers completed.

For communication on cancellations and schedule changes we will use REMIND to send out messages. To stay updated on important information, send this text message: @GETFAST23 to this number: 81010
