Event Description

On August 20th we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Newton Street Run 4 Youth 5K/1K fun run.  Walkers welcomed it's all for a good cause.

Ricardo Lizarraga was a police officer in Newton Division.  He lost his life on Feruary 20, 2004 while servingand protecting our community.   Newton Street Memorial Ride Foundation was created in honor of his legacy.  All proceeds benefit the hundreds of youths that live in the Newton Community (Ricardo Lizarraga Elementary and LAPD Newton Youth Programs).

It is proven that in the hours after school bell rings juvenile crime triples.  Statistics show that kids who particiapte in after school activities have a better chance of staying out of trouble.

Youth programs work!!!

LAPD Newton Youth Programs are free of charge to the youths and their families.

The 5K course will take you through the streets of South Los Angeles.  The race will start infront of Wetland Park, 54th/Avalon, it will take you south on Avalon Avenue to east on Slauson Avenue and north on Comton.  At Comptpon Avenue you will run into Augustus Hawkins Partk and loop around taking you back the same way to started.  The race will finish infront of  Wetlands Park where you will receive your finishers medal and snacks.  You will also enjoy music and activites following the race.
