Event Description

Few skills in life are as important as reading comprehension. Not only is it important academically, it’s a key element of human development. In Nicaragua, access to reading material is very limited. There are really no public libraries and books are very expensive. Even in the 37 public schools that we serve, there are virtually no books, except for some shared textbooks. We organize school libraries and reading clubs for elementary students, high school students and teachers. Each year, we distribute books to all the schools that we serve and we also invest in creating school libraries.

Several months ago, our dear fiend Isabel Pollen decided to run a marathon to raise money for books and reading. So, we decided to expand on her idea and organize a Run for Readers, with a goal of raising $25,000 for books and reading. Our goal is to distribute 3,000 books and build two school libraries in 2024.
Isabel will be running her marathon in London, but we invite runners, walkers and hikers of any age and experience level to participate from anywhere on the globe. Anyone is welcome to sign up and you are welcome to set your own distance and goals. When you sign up, you can set up your own fundraising page, to invite friends and family to support your efforts.

Here is a little about Isabel, the motivation for the Run for Readers:
My name is Isabel Pollen. Two of my greatest passions in life are the wellbeing of children and stories. When I first heard about Rayo De Sol, and the amazing work that Peter and his teams are doing, I was instantly inspired. I love to run. I have now run 5 marathons, and two half marathons, all for charity. This marathon will be my sixth. I am so excited to create this opportunity for runners around the world to join me for this incredible cause.

Born in London. Living in Twickenham, SouthWest London with my partner Camilla (osteopath) our daughter Jemima, 7 years old, and our 14-year-old American cockapoo, Teddy. My stepson and Camilla's son Ben is 18 and a half and an amazing big brother! I am a professional actress and 'performance under pressure' coach. I work all over the globe supporting teams and individuals through performance techniques and rehearsal style workshops. My acting work includes theatre work around the world, as well as performing onboard the QM2 between NYC and Southampton and around Europe and the Caribbean. I have also worked with the BBC and worked in film and voice-over/commercial work too.

Come and join me in this epic event and change the lives of these children and their families forever.
