Event Description
This is a race like no other that will be sure to test us all.
Join us in paying tribute to the one and only Jerrod Withrow. Jerrod lost his battle to cancer in 2021 and left behind a beautiful wife and three kids. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He was the type of person we all wish we could be and served bravely as a police officer for Mt. Lebanon as well as the South Hills Critical Incident Response Team.
This race is EXTREMELY UNIQUE and it goes like this...
We will walk/hike/jog/run the infamous Sled Riding Hill at the North Fayette Police Station. Up and down the hill is .25 miles (i.e. 1 LAP). You will have 8 minutes to do each lap. A new lap starts every 8 minutes and there are three separate challenges:
1 Mile Memorial Walk/Run - You will have to do a total of 4 laps, 1 lap every 8 minutes, for a total time of 32 minutes.
3 Mile Tribute Walk/Run - You will have to do a total of 12 laps, 1 lap every 8 minutes, for a total time of 1 hour and 36 minutes.
6 Mile "The One True Warrior" Run - You will have to do a total of 24 laps, 1 lap every 8 minutes, for a total time of 3 hours and 12 minutes. After the 6 mile run is finished we will have an all out race. Each runner that still remains will race another 4 laps (1 mile) as fast as possible and chase the crown of being "The One". A quote that Jerrod and Chad loved from Heraclitus is the foundation for this race. “Out of every one-hundred men (that go to battle), ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior and he will bring the others back.”
Friends and family are welcome to come and set up chairs to enjoy watching you run your laps. You are welcome to bring your own chairs for resting in between each lap and then watching once you are done.
For clarity, every runner has to be back from each lap within 8 minutes and must wait for the full 8 minutes to be up to start the next lap. Every racer will start each lap at the same time regardless of which race you are in, until we hit 6 miles and the remaining runners begin the untimed race to be "The One".
Once you complete your run, you get to hang out, drink beer, listen to music, play volleyball and corn hole, and continue watching and cheering on the other runners.
Please consider staying to have fun and cheer on the 3 and 6 mile participants as they put it all to the test.
Shirt cutoff date is Wednesday, Nov. 1st
